People pushing criminalization of homeless people want them to die. There are internal differences over how openly to do this or how fast. This isn’t ignorant or irrational—it is ghoulish. The stakes have to be made clear.

Capitalism needs a permanent underclass, that is used as the threat that they use to extort people into serving the system.

I saw this phrased on Twitter as “homeless people serve the same function as heads on spikes outside a medieval castle, warning the peasants not to step out of line”

Piven and Cloward make this point in relation to welfare recipients in Regulating the Poor.

“To demean and punish those who do not work is to exalt by contrast the meanest labor at the meanest wages”

This would also seem to be the point of not allowing trans people to use bathrooms. Or, as Johnathan Brandmeier teaches us: "stay in Milwaukee and die".

It also hits two birds with one stone, whether the people enacting these laws know it or not, given how high if a proportion of unhoused folks in certain states are trans teens who got kicked out of their homes by bigot parents.

No, they want them as free prison labor for corporations and for-profit prisons. Not dead. Slaves.

Only some of the homeless (the portion already employed but priced out of housing) can become useful slaves. The mentally ill or disabled will be neglected to death in confinement; they'll at least be profit generators for private prisons.

This is not a great squashing of mental illness and disability. You don't have to be Olympics Einstein to fold some laundry

They’re modeling everything on what Hitler did. So they would be killed.

Who's "they" I think y'all have an image of the mentally ill as just slobbering zombies

We don't need to win a revolution to discourage those people
