Hearing that Jane passed away this morning. An immense loss. Her teachings changed much of my life. If you've never read her work, you should make it a priority to do so today.
we all gotta cherish the time we have left with Jane McAlevey, but among the things that are great about her is how much time and effort she's spent making sure we will have more organizers like her
One of my critiques of the engagement with Project 2025 has been to assert that "this is not what America is about."
They ARE what America is about. We must engage with MAGA not to keep the status quo, but to build a better future.
No one has written about this (I will) but Project 2025 will destroy federal lands as we know it as well as any progress towards recognizing Native peoples.
Honestly I feel deflated seeing the response to “depiction of white Christian nationalism ascendant” be cracks about inbreeding, or glee at concentrating these people in rural communities so they can eat their own
Nearly 2 million people have been displaced in Gaza – almost the entire population – after the Israeli military last week ordered a further 80,000 people to evacuate parts of Gaza City amid a renewed ground operation, the latest UN figures show.
At the same time, there are various opportunities to 1) pursue political solutions because courts have withdrawn or 2) telling courts they cannot make you do a thing, which are being ignored.
Walking and cycling prioritized in cities, clean transit and renewables projects in the region. Large-scale river and wetland restoration. All exist already in North Karelia.
What irks me about the Project 2025 discourse is that it treats a decades long Republican agenda as new and practically external to the party in order to mobilize people to vote (but no more) instead of to build a larger political project to stop and roll it back.
Over-educated folks have a tendency to assume big political problems deserve big complicated solutions--because otherwise what are we for? But sometimes, I'd say most of the time, things can be very difficult but still quite simple.

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.
Have been deleting a bunch of pics from my phone but along the way I’ve seen some screenshots of people I respect a lot saying really nice things about my work. I’m not crying, you are.
As an organizer, I connect with people about the things they care about. Yes, people are invested in systems, but they are also invested in their children, their safety, their regard for their neighbors, their future, etc. There's a lot to talk about.
What happens usually is that folks quickly move on to scolding the fighters for the next 4 years.
"It's just the first year of the term"
"you need to get them a Congress to work with"
"protest in the most toothless way possible"
I think that an insidious mistruth that is spread during Presidential elections in particular is that most of the people who do vote are planning to be engaged in other politics beyond voting on a regular basis. Pick the enemy you want to fight is belied by the fact that most won't fight that enemy.
