One of the best nights of my life. Saw Shellac, played poker with Steve dealing, it was his table he ran for late night use at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Monticello NY in ‘09. He took over $300 off these drunk dummies in like an hour and I made $80 which made me feel like a KING DC.
He was the most fascinating person I've ever met. Funny, but with a rigid, defined sense of ethics and philosophy toward entertainment that should be more pervasive. Someone told me before we talked that he was a prick, but he just didn't suffer folks who go out of their way to be wrong. What a loss

With all the (enormous) respect due Steve — ALL UNCOVER! — I saw the Cure a few years ago and they played the entirety of The Head on the Door AS AN ENCORE!!! (one of two) and it was massive.
Oh no!!! The easy thing was matching his anger as a young man. The ongoing challenge will always be matching his wise Zen chill as he matured in a world that's every bit as infuriating as it was decades ago.
