Several aliases I was not aware of! 'The striated heron (Butorides striata) also known as mangrove heron, little green heron or green-backed heron'... Funny, I was standing right there looking at the bird and green just did not hit me, but its a great looking bird! ;-)
EVERY time I went to the MNSA preserve in Oceanside L.I. someone would ask me if I if I had seen the green heron. This has gone on for a year, and it was always no and it seemed like a running joke on me.

Had to look it up! Ceratostoma foliatum is Greek, Keras=horn, stoma =mouth. This refers to the snail’s shell shape, which resembles a horn-like mouth opening. Foliatum=leafy in Latin. It describes the frilled or flanged appearance of the body whorl in this snail’s shell.
Not sure if they are communists as they all fluff out the news web page with guesses of what the news will be like when it's really news. They never look back on their forecast accuracy or the impact of their guesses as that can be the intention of their yellow journalism.
I've been inspired to take a closer look at the plants of Long Island after seeing plants from around the world posted here. Here's two I've never noticed and found today.
