I wish I met him. I wish he were still with us. And quite selfishly, I wish he had written more books even though he was a prolific writer who gifted us with many.
I remember meeting him in Lancaster in the early 90s and asked him to sign a copy of one of his books. I said this would increase its value and he said it wouldn’t because the rare ones were the ones he hadn’t signed!
