When Sal Buscema took his time, which was about once a year, he could draw a really sweet splash page. This is one of my favorites. Defenders #5, 1973. One of the best drawings of Val. Lots of detail (for Sal), nice perspective.

So for reasons known only to the corner office types, Officemax closed its nice, well-stocked store near me. The only option left is a shitty Officemax 5 miles further in a failing strip mall. Dirty, broken floor tiles, understaffed, poorly stocked. WTF? I take it Officemax is on its last legs?

I've been lamenting this for awhile. I just abandoned Meta, because of the blitzkrieg AI scraping of art it unleashed last month. Facebook was very useful for selling books, so it's not a "so what?" A lot of comics folk were there. Twitter is finished. Insta is Meta. So now what?
Hey, so. I understand that this is anecdotal and not research, but. It is WILD how useless social media has become for promo. It's a fucking disgrace, really.

Hey, remember how librarians and I were warning everyone that mass book-banning is just step one of a fascist government takeover? Well, some of the same book-banning orgs we warned you about are on the advisory board for Project 2025, whose leader calls it a "second American Revolution.”

Jesus Fucking Christ. NYT runs THIS on Independence Day, during the most pivotal election year since the Civil War. This is obscene.

One of the great wrongs of comics history. Jerry Siegel at his mail clerk job in 1975. He made $7000 a year. Warner Bros., owner of DC Comics, was about to make the first Superman blockbuster film, the most expensive ever. It made $300M. Jerry hadn't gotten a cent off Supes since... 1948!

Here’s where we’re at: Supreme Court justices have interpreted current law and precedent to say explicitly and literally that a president can murder his political opponent and he can never be prosecuted for it.

On a related note to my last post, guess what's on Kanopy now?... the documentary on Jeffrey Catherine Jones! Been wanting to see this for awhile. It has extensive interviews with the mysterious Jones, and lots of top creators discussing the impact of JCJ's art: Gaiman, Moebius (!), McKean, Pope

This was posted on a Jeffrey Catherine Jones page. Red Circle Sorcery #7 from 1974. The art is credited to Bruce Jones, who was a writer not an artist, mostly for Warren. The truth? It was drawn by (then) Jeff Jones, Bernie Wrightson and Mike Kaluta! They all shared a studio. Holy cats!

Who knocked Sgt. Pepper out of the #1 Billboard spot? Bobby Gentry! "The Ode to Billie Joe"spent A MONTH at #1! Completely forgotten now. She had 11 Top 100 hits. Then she quit the biz in 1982 and hasn't been seen since. She was a real hottie, too. Yeah, had insomnia tonight. Can you tell?

I dunno, I guess y'all didn't sit through "Eyes On The Prize" every February in Social Studies for every year of middle school? Maybe you should find it and watch it. You will not find "They shot our leader, we should give up, it's hopeless now."
