Tabby is the striped coat pattern, not a breed. You can get tabby Maine coons.

Like evangelicals going for a restaurant lunch after church, they'll expect staff to be working and simultaneously judge them for doing so.

Kākā Barista serving a Kākā Barrister?

We're facing the same thing. Ain't no-one here wants to deal with any level of PII and yet we keep getting proposals that would amount to "user needs us to store information for them to retrieve later".

I think the thing is that few non-developer people have the type of what-machine-has-to-know-what-when mental model to connect personalisation with data collection, and data collection with data security...

As long as councils are also prevented from compensating individuals for weather related damage in any way. Your McMansion washed off the cliff into the water? Too bad, and also you're on the hook for cleanup.

From the link above, it looks like the IRS considers a green card holder a person for tax purposes unless they formally surrender their green card. I assume there is a form. Somewhere.

Yeah, hence the discussion on renouncing citizenship. It used to be that the US did not allow dual citizenship but that has been relaxed now.

These are people who have gained NZ citizenship. Showing their shiny new NZ passport should be sufficient.

There are specific accountants here in NZ whose names are passed around in the US ex-pat community, who specialise in filing US taxes for NZ resident Americans. What gets me is - 1) most of the ones I know don't earn enough to actually owe anything to the US.
Avatar
2) to legally get out of this rigamarole (and on parity with what the rest of the world does) you have to renounce your American citizenship. 3) aside from any emotional or familial attachment to one's original citizenship, in order to renounce one has to go to the embassy for an exit interview.
Avatar
4) for which there is a fee, of around $400 iirc (plus travel and accommodation if one doesn't live near the embassy) The interview is ostensibly to make sure you're not being coerced into renouncing (because why would anyone want to give up citizenship in the greatest country in the world!?!)
Avatar
So you have to have a legit reason, but, and get this - 5) not wanting to deal with the @$#&*$#@ US tax system every @$&*$#& year is not an acceptable reason!

So, so many of the problems this Government amount to them not doing their homework. Nicola Willis: "I really enjoyed this PREFU, especially the part about the fairies"

"I really enjoyed this book" Is what the kid writes in their report when they didn't even open the book til the night before the assignment was due.

Spending money on the work of skilled artisans is one of the ways wealthy people can offset the harms done by wealth inequality in society. So, you may not have needed that guitar, but I think you were morally obliged to buy it anyway.

I too, had leftover birthday cake for dessert. 😋❤️

It's not just predatory lenders. Service providers that bundle a range of things together can also obscure things in a way that makes optimising your budget difficult and more expensive than it needs to be.

Gerretsen. Now there's a familiar name, and a vague CV. I wonder what else he's been involved with... www.stuff.co.nz/environment/...
