I don't think primary voters had much to do with it. It was more that no viable alternative actually stepped up to challenge him.

During a press call this morning, St. Luke's chief medical officer Dr. Jim Souza says for all of last year, 1 patient was airlifted from Idaho to another state for maternal complications. Since January, when SCOTUS lifted the EMTALA protection from the abortion ban, it has happened 6 times.
Avatar
If that pace continues, that would be up to 20 patients this year who would need to be airlifted to other states for termination because of complications like preterm water rupture, which often leads to infection.

Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) is one of the most common complications during pregnancy. Last year, it occurred 54 times at St. Luke's, about once a week.

Powerful story from @kelciemmorris.bsky.social. Alabama subjects doctors who perform abortions to up to 99 years prison, and politicians have created a climate where a person not only has to grieve a child that won't make it to term, but also has to drive 11 hours for a critical medical procedure.
Kelly Shannon carried a fetus with a tumor that took up one-third of its body. It would not survive term. An abortion should have been allowed, even under Alabama's strict ban. But UAB declined to perform it.

Right! I got so many downvotes too when the Erowhon episode came out for saying you subscribed to support the main feed content too. I love MP because you can tell a TON of work goes into the episodes. I subscribe to acknowledge that too. But maybe I’m just a triggered former newspaper reporter 🤪
