I think that all the headlines calling the GOP platform "moderate" on abortion when it advocates for fetal personhood under the 14th Amendment are the thing that will truly push me over the edge

did anyone catch the protest-bashing line in gorsuch's homelessness decision? "It makes no difference whether the defendant is a person experiencing homelessness, on vacation, or a student who abandons his dorm room to camp out in protest on the lawn of a municipal building"

I trust all of @garnethenderson.bsky.social's reporting. But especially reproductive rights reporting where she has deep expertise. And, anything Idaho, always. :)

More details out now via Bloomberg, though imo they should be embedding the document in the story. It's apparently a 6-3 ruling with Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch dissenting. It would allow doctors in Idaho to provide emergency abortion *while litigation continues.*
Bloomberg reports that the EMTALA opinion was accidentally posted on the Supreme Court's website today and then removed. If that's indeed the final opinion the case will be dismissed and the lower court's ruling, allowing doctors to provide abortions in emergencies, will stand.

The Dominican Republic's senate has approved first reading of a new penal code that maintains full criminalization of abortion, without exceptions. In February, a senatorial aide named Adilka Feliz died after being denied an abortion.

I'm a broken record on this, but it's journalistic malpractice to credulously report that Trump wants to "leave abortion to the states" as if that means average voters will get a say in abortion policy. Everywhere abortion is on the ballot, the GOP is trying to block the vote.

Why didn’t the Comstock repeal bill go all the way? A source tells me the Biden DOJ claimed broad “obscenity” language is essential to its prosecutions of child sexuality abuse material. DOJ decline to provide me with an example. Learn more: rewirenewsgroup.com/2024/06/25/a...

Launching a campaign called “abortion access now” with zero details about the “now” part is a pretty elite troll if you really think about it

It's been two years since Dobbs, I'm tired, and everyone who does direct abortion provision and support work is even MORE tired. That's kind of all I have to say

No EMTALA opinion today, again. At present the only decision day scheduled for next week is Wednesday, but Monday is a conference day, and more opinion days will likely be announced then. There is also the unfortunate possibility that the court could extend the term into July 🫠

Somewhat surprisingly, the Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to a federal law that prevents domestic abusers from possessing guns. Clarence Thomas has the lone dissent

Congressional Democrats have introduced a bill that they are characterizing as a Comstock repeal. But as reported prior to the bill’s introduction, it is not a full repeal but a piecemeal effort. I’m looking into it, more to come

Per usual a lot of coverage of this case is missing some very important facts. It was not dismissed, it is not dead bsky.app/profile/garn...
Before you get too excited: This legal battle is still fully in play as three states have been granted the right to intervene in the case. The Supreme Court may well in the future decide that they DO have standing
