I still can’t imagine a better cover than the one Jorge Mascarenhas created for WAKE THE BONES. The shadowy hands in the roots that are dragging Laurel down, the tobacco leaves on the cover… I still stare at it in wonder sometimes and will brag to anyone who asks about his incredible work.
Authors! Please come flaunt your human-drawn covers. Quote this naming the artist of your cover and what you like about it!

This is a super interesting conv with the *team* behind @leemandelo.bsky.social's upcoming "The Words All Black". And I was excited *before* reading "In a media landscape that wants to sanitizes queer fiction to please a broader audience, I'm happy to keep editing and publishing unsanitary work."🔥🔥
Stories About Stories is this year's Stone Soup series, in which I interview the people behind your new favorite books! Go check out the first installment, featuring the brilliant team behind THE WOODS ALL BLACK.

In recent years, I've paid closer attention to juried awards like World Fantasy & the Shirley Jackson Awards. For awards with large voting bodies, the Ignytes consistently offer an amazing slate of some of the best work in the field. I wish they would get wider recognition in SFF fandom & beyond.
SFF deserves a better award than the Hugos

My child is making wizard hand motions while chanting "meat. Meat. MEAT. MEAT! MEAT!!!" at me with increasing enthusiasm. He's covered in marker. He won't tell me what the symbols he's drawn on himself mean. Help?

Just passed a headshop called World of Smoke and Vape. Whose fantasy novel is this?

Here is of the first chapter  of the 1986 novel TALKING MAN by the late Terry Bisson, a great American. It’s a short first chapter. I believe this to be one of the great openings in American fantasy. Servants of the Secret Fire and wielders of the flame of Anor can ride in the back seat.

Writing horror is really just a bunch of “stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself” moments

Emotional avoidance in the form of closing my laptop and going snack hunting every time my character suffering a loss makes me want to cry.

Into the disturbing google search portion of the story where everything's like. Collarbone break image search. How to kick down a door. Concussion symptoms. Carp pharyngeal teeth. Blood pooling.

HOUSE OF HUNGER by Alexis Henderson! Do you like your vampires to be horny gothic lesbians? You should! This zippy velvet-draped novel is a sumptuous take on the Gothic and truly decadent. Our drink, the Bloodmaid, is a heady blend of dark fruits and sanguine desire. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxqG...

Folks, look, Scholastic is only a billion-dollar juggernaut that dominates the children’s book industry. What are they supposed to do about fascist book banning and censorship in the face of 11 racists sending angry emails? Whatever they want because they literally can? C’mon. Be reasonable.

The Brooklyn Public Library has announced that any teenager in America is now eligible for a Brooklyn Public Library card. Teens can sign out ebooks + audiobooks from wherever they live. The move is designed to combat censorship, with some titles listed as "always available." 📚

Scholastic asks, "Do you want to opt out of 'diverse' books at your school's next book fair?" Your participation in white supremacy has never been easier, just uncheck the 'diverse' books box– poof, no problems. 🙄
Scholastic Under Fire for Allowing Schools to Opt Out of ‘Diverse Books’ for Book Fairswww.themarysue.com Scholastic has been accused of bending to right-wing pressure, making having diverse books optional for school book fairs.

Three great tastes that taste great together! What contemporary Southern horror are you reading this Spooky Season? I always prefer a Kentucky author myself 😉

It’s my pleasure to reveal the cover for EVOCATION, my polyamorous urban fantasy, and book one in the Summoner’s Circle series! Designer Alice Coleman and artist Eleonor Piteira knocked it out if he ballpark, and I’m thrilled to finally share the cover with you all I refer to as “oh no he’s hot!”

WAKE THE BONES by @eakilcoyne.bsky.social is YA horror at its finest. Set in the hollers of Kentucky, WtB is redolent with herbs, taxidermy, & muddy river water. For those who feel at home & those who hear the call of somewhere new, I recommend our mocktail Better (or Bitter) Back Home. LINK BELOW.

I have the best job in the world. There is nothing cooler than seeing someone with leaves for earrings walk into a room and immediately knowing you’re about to have the best conversation with a reader that’ll no doubt involve a good folk tale or woods anecdote. Love y’all.

Sheree Renée Thomas has been a transformative editor at F&SF, publishing essential writers and stories. She doesn't deserve the problem she currently has to deal with there. But it doesn't surprise me that she has been forced to deal with it without publisher support. A thread. 1/x
