FANTASTIC comedy change-up. Love love love it. Really, Taika's movies are amazing. Still in awe of Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
Avatar
Hunt is still may favorite of his, or at least that or Shadows or Ragnarok, he’s a weird one though, I tend to either love his stuff or I can’t stand it, rarely am I neutral.
Avatar
Yeah, out of all his stuff, I'd have to go with Hunt. But I *do* have to question the need to make a narrative adaptation of Next Goal Wins, given that the documentary feels SO MUCH LIVELIER AND WILDER than what Taika gives us.
Avatar
Still haven’t gotten around to that Next Goal Wins. Feel good sports stories are, like, barely above music biopics on the grand list of subgenres that don’t interest me at all.
Avatar
I prefer my horror with a heaping dollop of comedy, since I'm most likely going to laugh at it anyway it's super serious
Avatar
And when they get the comedy *right,* it's really something... such as it is with Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (not a vampire movie, but just sayin'). Although if we're talking comedy mixed with horror? The Lost Boys is UNIMPEACHABLE, UNTOUCHABLE.
Avatar
Shaun, obviously, but also American Werewolf In London figured it out first
Avatar
Shaun didn't play anywhere near here, but its reputation spoke well enough for it that I blind-bought the DVD with no hesitation or not having even seen any footage of it. Not all my blind-buys succeeded, but hot damn, that hit the mark like nothing else.

*Eyes chance* Have you seen Love Bites? (Early 90’s romcom)
Avatar
...googling... 1993... Adam Ant? ... Michelle Forbes?! On Prime! You had me at Michelle Forbes
Avatar
I know!!!! And it is very camp, and I put it on my autistic vampire list. 😊 it has all the jokes I expected. hope you will tell me your fave part later.
Avatar
Also I feel like we need to remind people the movie exists, as the wonderful TV series has overshadowed it. Also, I love the brilliant Wellington Paranormal spin-off.

Wellington Paranormal was excellent

I will resubscribe to "Max" if they'll just give me more!
Avatar
Also Maaka Pohatu should be a huge star
Avatar
Lifeforce, because it's completely bonkers
Avatar
HELL TO THE YES My man Tobe Hooper could do no wrong.
Avatar
Near Dark and Let the Right One in.
Avatar
Love love love that... and I think that'd work well as a double-feature!
Avatar
I agree. They go well together!
Avatar
near dark is so fucking good
Avatar
Near Dark is the best vampire film of the 1980s, and yes I am aware of both Lost Boys and the Hunger. Anyone wants to fight me, I’ll be in the car park.

OH HELL YES :D Love me some Jim Jarmusch, and to see horror fixtures translated through a Jarmusch lens (Only Lovers Left Alive for vampires, The Dead Don't Die for zombies) is terrific.
Avatar
It's gorgeous, Tilda is ethereal and the scene where they dance in the living room to "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" is just one of my favorite film moments over like the last decade.
Avatar
Fright Night is always a classic.
Avatar
*Perfect* combination of elements, especially THAT FREAKING CAST. Chris Sarandon not only kills it, but he kills it multiple times and is now wanted for mass murder.
Avatar
The man plays his villainous bastards well.
Avatar
Amanda Bearse is underrated in general

DA KING :D Love love love that movie. Said it before, say it again: best closing line in cinema, hands down.
Avatar
I offered to hang off of the bridge they used while in Santa Cruz. I was told it was "dangerous" and "illegal." Whatever. The boardwalk is much less exciting if there's no vampires, so I pretended there were vampires. OTOH, the people were, indeed, strange (strange...strange) I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!
Avatar
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aw, wow... ... but aye, that opening with "When You're Strange" is amazing. And somehow, it only GETS EVEN BETTER from there!
Avatar
If you're looking for Vampire Comedy there's always the underrated "Once Bitten", a goofy 1980's rom com which was released just before Jim Carrey hit big. It's stupid & vapid, hasn't aged well, but the dance scene alone is worth it www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyPc...
Once Bitten (1/1) Jim Carrey Caught in a Dance Off (1985) HDwww.youtube.com CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/1reuGJV Jim Carrey is caught in the middle in this crazy dance scene from Once Bitten. Grab Love At First Bite / Once Bitte...
Avatar
Haven't gotten around to that one yet, but I'd love to try it, aye!
Avatar
I love Once Bitten! Have you seen Love Bites? (I feel like nobody did…)
Avatar
Yes I’ve seen it. I think I’ve seen most vampire movies, well, a lot anyway
