I worked with a kid a decade ago who, over pizza in the break room, asked "if driving is so energy inefficient, why don't we have moving roads instead?"
Literally no one acknowledged that he had spoken.
They aren't "planning" this at all - they put out an open call for high level proposals. It's an important distinction because I very much want to ride on one
Yea its hard to tell how serious it is because it seems to come from “we’re fucked we wont have enough young people to drive trucks for the old people” so it wont work out if it will take more conveyor belt repair people per mile than truck drivers
Trains and trucks will still be used, but will offset the congestion they have.
This will probably have prospects for expansion which will be easier than upgrading roads.
This will also have an advantage at being in transit immediately, as opposed to waiting for cargo container to be filled.
