reposting this just to see @questauthority.bsky.social's face
every lawyer : uhhh "With respect to content that is already on the open web, the social contract of that content since the 90s has been that it is fair use. Anyone can copy it, recreate with it, reproduce with it. That has been freeware, if you like. That's been the understanding," said Suleyman.
Ever put content on the web? Microsoft says that it's okay for them to steal it because it's 'freeware.'www.windowscentral.com Microsoft's CEO of AI said that content on the open web can be copied and used to create new content.

Yeah, I'm still waiting to see whether the major advocates for open-source licensing - like @creativecommons.bsky.social - are going to step up and say something on this one.

I look forward to seeing MPA & ASCAP litigation on this topic.

I was gonna say, can't help but wonder if the MPAA and RIAA might have some opinions about this 😅

The problem with screaming generative ai is worth trillions to manipulate your stock price is that everyone in the training set is gonna be looking for a cut. Of course it isn't really worth that but the litigation will be based on risk not actuals.
