My favorite thing connected to this is how upset Dennis Miller got about her making fun of Donald Trump and was like oh boy watch out for some of my patented epic burns, I just need a few days but they’re going to destroy her, and we’re still waiting six years later
I wouldn't feel bad, his whole schtick for the past 20+ years has been making esoteric quips that 1) nobody gets, and 2) aren't funny even when they're explained. And like this, is usually indistinguishable from just being a weirdo.
My husband once walked out of a Dennis Miller “comedy” routine at a local club for being nothing hit a giant asshole, and when Miller tried to heckle him on the way out Husband Unit heckled him back WORSE.
There's been a lot of backlash against "don't punch down", but Dennis Miller's later career is an excellent illustration of why it's such good advice: irrespective of ethics or morality, punching down very quickly stops being funny, and you lose fans until only assholes are left.
As I recall he did make a response insult tweet, and it was remarkably lame. It contained a "cross reference" or two, and wasn't funny at all. Just a dead carp on a plate. It exposed how empty his cross-reference comedy was, made him look more outdated. He may have deleted it.
I *think* his bit was supposed to be that she's a nobody who he's never heard of so he'll have to do some research before saying anything about her, but if so it absolutely doesn't land.
