The problem is that in most immigrant communities, the ones who “did it the right way” don’t have a lot of empathy for those who are undocumented, and they find it really distasteful and insulting to imply that they’re equivalent (this is not exclusive to Latine groups, but immigrants generally)

I’m not saying Dems shouldn’t run ads on Spanish language media— I’m saying that making the threat of ICE rounding people up the focus of those ads is more likely to push those eligible to vote to choose the GOP than Dems

GOP candidates don’t, and neither will ICE, but the VOTERS do. What you’re talking about is essentially insulting and denigrating them by their own standards: “You look like all those ‘bad’ people from whom you go out of your way to distance yourself,” isn’t a really winning message.

Lots of assimilated American Jews didn’t want Eastern European Jews fleeing first Russia and then the Nazis to come to the US. There’s nothing new under the sun.

Of course, they have birthright citizenship which Trump is likely to try revoke. Probably won’t be as successful as his push to deport their parents.

Okay generalization doesn’t entirely hold true. A lot are born to naturalized citizens I imagine. But if Trump pushes as aggressively as is widely indicated, I bet he makes a try at those naturalizations.

If anyone thinks this will stop at illegal immigration as a justification they really need to stop and think harder. Trump fairly clearly has no time for asylum seekers or refugees, etc. there is a better than even chance they will be next on the list for a round up.
