If you every doubt the existence of patriotism in America, go to a citizenship swearing-in ceremony. Mine was in a courthouse in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

One of my favorite things I’ve ever crocheted was this sweater for a friend who became a citizen earlier this year. She wore it to the ceremony and to celebrate later that night. I started making it with my tongue in my cheek, but she legitimately loves it and what it represents to her.

My best experience was last year, visiting the Statue of Liberty for the first time. The crowd there was a rainbow of colors, speaking dozens of different languages. I was also able to view the immigration records of both my Mom and Dad. THAT was a great way to celebrate the Fourth.

went to my mother-in-law's this winter. It was in the original Peabody Hotel, built in 1869. So many countries represented.

For people who want to find one: I just googled “Nebraska citizenship ceremony” and got a list of where and when each one happens in the state. www.ned.uscourts.gov/internetDocs...
