Bingo!!! When evidence of effectiveness is weak, finding a dose-response relationship is useful for persuading the regulatory agencies. The dose-response p-values are entirely impossible (even if you forgive them double-counting 50 & 100mg, and triple-counting 200mg.

Dear #episky community. Is it difficult to change epi field after a Postdoc? Let’s say I research environmental risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and then I want to shift to cancer

Meanwhile eight states, seven Democratic trifectas (CA, CO, MA, ME, MI, MN, NM) and Vermont, took a lesson from the pandemic and made universal free school meals permanent.
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer

This seems like a cool study #episky
New study by Linsey Marr: “We aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 & pulled it through masks. After 1hr we were able to recover infectious virus from fabric masks but not an N95 or surgical mask. When we pressed artificial skin against the masks we found viral RNA but no infectious virus on the skin.” #MasksWork
Stability of Aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 on Masks and Transfer to Skinpubs.acs.org The potential for masks to act as fomites in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has been suggested but not demonstrated experimentally or observationally. In this study, we aerosolized a suspension of SAR...

Because to achieve that goal, we had to make pregnancy a scary option, which meant leaving families with kids without a decent social safety net. No paid family leave. No universal childcare. No child allowances. No baby boxes with supplies. Minimal cash welfare. 8/

We’ve just published our work linking electronic health records to social work data which identifies children at risk of significant harm. We found increased risk of mental health prescribing and referral for children who had been on the child protection register doi.org/10.1016/j.so... #Episky

Tip: We aren't comparing the effect of the treatment (tx) to the effect of placebo. We are *defining* the effect as the *difference* in outcome between those allocated to standard of care (SoC) + tx to those allocated to SoC + placebo, where placebo is used for blinding.

Also, please help me encourage a more diverse group of people to use the #StatsSky hashtag, so everyone interested in statistics can find them.
Avatar
Statisticians! Please use hashtags like #stats, so your work or question or idea appears in the StatsSky feed and can be found by people interested in that topic! And please promote other people's work there too, especially if they aren't typically represented in science feeds.

“Statisticians shouldn’t be allowed to name things” 🤣😂
Another confusing missing data #stats term to add to the pile. Fraction of Missing Information (FMI). Is it the percentage of missing data? No! It's how much information about an estimand is lost due to missing data after imputation. Statisticians shouldn't be allowed to name things.

Something that has helped is people contacting to say they've read the preprint & it introduced them to, e.g. tautological associations. And they think they've spotted an example from their own field! This was the dream all along! Helping people see these issues for themselves.

Just saw Inside Out 2… 10/10 highly recommend. My youngest (only 7!) has huge anxiety issues that we have been working on with a professional for about a year now. She has made amazing progress. This movie spoke to her in all the ways.
