P.S.: No, this does not remove AI art from Google Images or AI generated sites. It removes the knowledge panels so you can search more easily. We’re aiming for convenience here, not magic.

Part of me thinks Google will keep this as a wink and nod way to get around what they're doing. The other part makes me think they're going to randomize the syntax to make it harder to do this

There's a bug where if you hit "Enter" after typing your query it just redirects back to the same page instead of issueing the search request. Currently you have to manually click the button to get it to work.

Holy shit it really works. It's just how Google search used to be. I searched for a guitar pedal I own called the Pork and Pickle by Way Huge. On Google proper I get some results for the pedal and a bunch of results for pork and/or pickle related food dishes. With this I just get relevant hits.

Duck Duck returns all news articles embedded as MSN links. I don’t know if that lets Microsoft hijack the ad revenue from the news outlets or not, but it was annoying enough that I switched search engines.

duck duck go has been using AI for a year, it's less annoying because it just summarizes wikipedia instead of trying to crab from the whole internet but no one needs to use a small country's worth of water just to get a wikipedia answer

Also, it's worth noting that anytime there's a controversy about them, earned or otherwise, the CEO starts name searching his own product on Twitter to defend it.

The only thing better than this is an &udm14 that also rolls back all of the SEOification that preceded enshittification. That’s the real Google throwback edition that I want.

If I don’t add a search qualifier “+shopping” or select a shopping results filter, I just never ever again want to scroll through a bunch of retail results when doing a search.

the first search i did with it, when I clicked on "images" the source was OpenAI and an AI "artwork"... did I do something wrong?

This is a tool to fix the search layout so you're not getting Gemini results or knowledge panels on standard searches, not the content of the standard results. I get that it may be desirable, but you would essentially need very good AI to fix that, which wouldn't be AI free.

We can fix the presentation, but the results are straight Google.
