The Indian state of Meghalaya, these natural root bridges are a common site. The local people worked out how to coax loose ficus tree roots protruding from river banks to grow together into a single solid mass sturdy enough to hold 30 people crossing together. (📷: Giulio Di Sturco, NatGeo)

I've got an amazing joke about Atropos, but I'm worried I'll get cut off before the punchline.

I need white people specifically to understand this or defer to people of color who do They hate us more than they like themselves. That’s the why Trying to decode it, feeds into their worldview That everything g must center them .. or it should not exist

I actually can’t preorder this book (I already did, as soon as it was possible to do so) but you still could! THE MIMICKING OF KNOWN SUCCESSES was among my favorite reads of 2023, and there is plenty of time yet to enjoy it in time for the second Investigation of Mossa and Pleiti.

Here’s a “competing with China” that I could get behind.
none of the hawks nor the chamber of commerce boosters want to talk about "competing with China" in this regard

#Webcomics Hey kids! Here's a fun game! They just dropped a list of All the artists that Midjourney admits to having scraped to train its A.I. engine. Are YOU on it? (We are) Do you have a good lawyer? (We do) (storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...)

I just sent the Joseph Saveri Law Firm (representing Brom, Sarah Andersen, and Adam Ellis in the suit against Midjourney) an inquiry about being added as a plaintiff via this contact form. I suggest everyone that appears on that list does the same. www.saverilawfirm.com/contact-us/

I also truly love this analogy. This comes up all media, sadly.
That Home Depot/milkshake analogy is going to live absolutely rent-free in my head forever.

I want a Kaiju recipe book of dishes to be prepared using megalithic ingredients.
How am I only just learning about the 67-foot-tall napa-cabbage sculpture in Handan, China?

I consistently manage not to be upset by things like this, because @seananmcguire.bsky.social knows her business. I wouldn’t want Mary Robinette to nuke her throat even if she offered, and “different perspective character, different narrator” seems sensible regardless.
I know I'm not the boss of any of y'all, but if you could stop emailing my poor PA to complain about how the narrator for the Tybalt book is not Mary Robinette, that would be swell. Tybalt's book has a non-Toby POV, and doing that voice for fifteen hours would have killed her throat.

I’ve re-“read” @seananmcguire.bsky.social’s Wayward Children series in audiobook format this week. They’re delightful in that format; they feel particularly suitable to being told as a story. Even more on a second read, the multiple perspective and setting/lore buildup over the series is wonderful

Skeeting @clpolk.bsky.social to thank them for Even Though I Knew the End. The hard-boiled detective’s style and fatalism in an aching romance is wonderful. The combination of setting and supernatural is one I didn’t know I needed. I’m still thinking days after the end.

Skeeting at @older.bsky.social about how much I enjoy the Mimicking of Known Successes. Others should know that the Jovian scifi, speculative academia, mystery, and characters work together so that I puzzled and thought, cackled audibly as the plot snapped together, and melt for the protagonists.

Just skeeting directly at @travisbaldree.bsky.social and say how much I enjoyed Legends and Lattes. Anyone else seeing this probably also should know this is a cozy, heartful story and I would struggle not to kill to protect several of the wonderful characters.
