Violet Affleck: "To confront the Long COVID crisis I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC light in government facilities, including jails and detention centers and mask mandates in county medical facilities. And most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason." 🔥🔥🔥
Violet Affleck made a public comment opposing the proposed mask ban in #LosAngeles! 🔥 #LA #healthyoutube.com

"from a place of knowledge" is so telling a man will spend ages worldbuilding to permit ancient dragons to exist in their setting before having a conversation with a woman with enough depth to depict them as people with interiority, huh

I just saw an interview with a male fantasy author where he said "I guess I haven't really written female protagonists because it's not really something I feel like I can write from a place of knowledge." Reader, this man wrote a series with a whole ass ancient dragon as their protagonist. 🙄

Ah haha oh god, VUW English Department is closing its Facebook page because Meta AI is automatically responding to comments there like it is the actual English Department. I don't actually know how this is not illegal.

So there was this woman who went to ALA COVID positive without letting anyone know (and went to various outside things UNMASKED). And people are (rightfully) upset and criticizing. But I wonder if a lot of that anger is projection. Because let’s be real she wasn’t the only one unmasked at ALA.

DRAGONFLIGHT (1978) Acrylic on Masonite - 20" X 30" For the first book in Anne McCaffrey's now legendary Dragonriders of Pern series, I wanted to create a literal visualization of the title. I selected an aerial point-of-view and tilted the horizon to simulate the dizzying sensation of flight. 1/4

Very much connected to @fobettarh.bsky.social ‘s concept of “vocational awe.” 📚
I’m gonna be honest and maybe I’m jaded but all this talk of the library being “magical” sometimes rubs me the wrong way. Like it isn’t magic. It’s underpaid workers doing all this shit for you. It isn’t someone waving a wand and shit gets done. Idk. I’m just irritable today.

B'nai Brith says this poem glorifies martyrdom and got it removed from a display at the Toronto public library. Palestinian children having hope and love is apparently unacceptable.

"This is still who we are" by @fobettarh.bsky.social "It’s exhausting to see the constant denial of a truth that we (should) all know— there is no one true librarian. There are plenty of #librarians who are homophobic and transphobic and racist and sexist and ableist and so on." 📜📚
This is still who we arefobaziettarh.com So recently there have been a slew of anti-librarian legislation. Between library boards trying to remove the young adult designation or Louisiana's HB 777 which would criminalize libraries or librari...

I've seen little recognition thus far that states banned abortion in 1840s-60s explicitly because they were panicked about increasing numbers of non-Anglican immigrants and the emancipation of Black slaves. Then, as now, abortion bans were about forcing more white women to have more white babies

"And so you see, as much as we want to deny this Texan librarian as “not a real librarian” she is in many ways the quintessential librarian. She is only continuing the long line of (white) women who see their job as librarians as missionary work to save the souls of those they consider beneath them.
Happy National Library Week! Here is a late post for National Library Workers Day in response to some of the discourse I’ve seen in regard to the LitHub article about prison libraries. fobaziettarh.com/2024/04/09/t...

Happy Leap Day! We get an extra day in our wild and precious lives this year! I treasure May Sarton's advice in a letter to Madeleine L'Engle: "Be of good hope. Try to think in terms of ‘the long run’ and store up your honey like the bees." Store some honey for you & distribute some honey too!

It’s only fascism if it’s exactly like 1930s Europe, otherwise it’s just sparkling far right, hyper-nationalist populism that deploys antisemitic & racist propaganda in defense of a nostalgic concept of the traditional patriarchal family supposedly besieged by culturally-foreign & degenerate others.
