I feel like one of the big problems today is that when you have a zillion microcontrollers, everything looks like a job for a microcontroller. I bet there's tons of instances where electromechanical designs would be better, but few know how to make such things anymore.

I actually unironically would like to see a remake of Moon Zero Two (1969) as a damning condemnation of what might happen if we let capitalism run space exploration. MST3k riffed this movie but I think it's -- Y'know it's not 2001 but it's got qualities. (It's set in 2021, oddly enough)
