some example use cases:
- you're on bsky but your friend group is elsewhere. this recommends all your fave feeds/users and helps your friends onboard right to your community
Today, we’re releasing starter packs — personalized invites that allow you to bring friends directly into your slice of Bluesky! 🚀
Update to version 1.87 of the app or refresh desktop to create a starter pack. (It may take a moment for version 1.87 to appear in the iOS App/Google Play stores.)
You have one (1) piece of birch bark. If you write a question on it and leave it in the hollow stump, the forest will give you an answer. What do you ask?
One of Bluesky's superpowers is custom feeds. Unlike certain other platforms where we're at the mercy of black box algorithms, we control our own timelines here.
A new favourite: QUIET POSTERS, which highlights posts from those who don't post frequently, so I'm sure to see their content. 💙🦋 #kidlit
Excited to share the brand new MEGA KIDLIT FEED!
Easily stay on top of #KidLit posts from all (well… many) folks in the community!
Feed: bsky.app/profile/did:...
For more info on the feed and HOW TO ADD/USE it, see comments 👇

recent improvements:
- much better search
- basic dms
- discover feed is now more simcluster-y (expect this to keep getting tuned)
- discover feed has “show less” and “show more” buttons
- notifications and badges should work more reliably
lots of stuff in progress including a revamp of feeds
I love it when there's clearly some kind of bluesky drama going on and I have no idea what it is. I just sit here happily going through my discover feed clicking "show more like this" on every cat photo.
Just in case you hadn't heard, Bluesky has free algorithmic choice. You are in control of what you see here.
Don't trust the algorithm, choose your algorithm.
Or write your own.

The dawn redwood, that once thrived alongside the dinosaurs, was thought to be extinct until a little grove of them was found in southeast China. Now they’re all over. Look at this lovely guy hanging out on the street.
Android users: we've published a new version of the app (1.85.1) with some important bugfixes.
- Crash on startup issue resolve
- Fixes to the keyboard
- Scrolling performance improved
- Image picker should give access to your whole library again
- Zoomed images correctly fill the screen again
Great new Bluesky search features!

—Specify post dates with "since:" or "until:" (YYYY-MM-DD)
—Search for a URL to see if users have posted links to it
—Find posts in a particular language (e.g., "lang:ja") with keyword
Bluesky has been independent from the start, but it took six months of negotiation in 2021 to set it up that way, and from the outside during that period it looked like the project was going to remain vaporware forever. Very glad we are alive today — it very easily could have turned out otherwise.
From today's Pragmatic Engineer, one bit of Bluesky history that I love and wish more people knew --
@jay.bsky.team pushed hard to make us an independent company and was incredibly prescient in doing so

Semi-related: did you know you can subscribe to this AI Image Labeler: bsky.app/profile/did:...
And then use it to hide, or be warned about, AI imagery in your feed? It’s an example of Bluesky’s stackable approach to moderation: bsky.social/about/blog/0...
“No, you can’t opt out of Meta AI, despite what Meta AI tells you”
Hey kidlit Illustrators, when you're on Meta platforms and the conversation turns to, “oh no, what are we going to do now?!” tell them the kidlit community is thriving on Bluesky.

DMs on Bluesky will not be "end-to-end encrypted" until we are able to do some more protocol work.
We have very careful access controls within our systems.
If you're extremely privacy conscious, I'd recommend using Bluesky DMs to share your Signal accounts!
By default, only people you follow can message you. You can change this setting to everyone or no one, or keep it to people you follow.
Read more about how to use DMs and our planned feature updates in this blog post!
Now available: DMs! Start a private conversation with a friend directly on Bluesky within the Chat tab. 💬
Update to the latest version of the app (1.83) or refresh on desktop to start chatting!
There is a bluesky book club which I don’t have time to participate in, but they’re voting on a mystery to read this month if you want to join the #bskybc
Alright #bskybc we are sneaking in a May Mystery, meet your brackets! Its a little on the rushed side and again outside my element so please let's do a better job at voting :)
