The approval rating of The Supreme Court has plummeted to historic lows. Between the Court's radical rulings and blatant displays of corruption, the American people have lost faith in this Court. What can Congress do to win it back?
We've Got A Supreme Court Problemthinkbigpicture.substack.com The Supreme Court is out of control, it's time for Congress to step in with real reforms and ethical accountability.

This Congress? Nothing. The only way to remove a Supreme Court Justice is, theoretically, impeachment but the numbers don't exist in either house of this Congress. Expanding the SCOTUS up to 13, one for each Circuit, would be more likely.
Avatar
#ExpandTheCourt And also, hold hearings, and issue subpoenas to Thomas and Alito, so the American people can see that Congress is DOING SOMETHING about the corruption, and not just ignoring it.

Since Vile Misogynist Greggy Abbott set precedent and ignored the Supreme Court, maybe if more governors just didn't give a shit what the Supremes rule, might convince them their rulings should align with democracy, rule of law, and the constitution. Or Not. They get paid either way.

yay ... since Trumbo placed his guys into the Supreme Court ...

Term limits and a court reset for me. One justice per federal jurisdiction (add one, you add a SC justice).

I don't think we need Congress. We need NASA to solve the Supreme Court problem, because the only solution I see right now is to launch the court into space.

The Supreme Court should not be a lifetime appointment. They should do 15 year terms & 3 of the seats should turnover every 5 years.

As an European: why do Americans need an 'approval rating' on a court when members are apointed for life by a polical institute of no more than two colors?
Avatar
Because technically, the supreme court in the US has no power to enforce their rulings. So if enough people get tired of them, they will just either be ignored or impeached.

Impeach Thomas and Alito at the very least
Term limits for all unelected offices

Repeal and replace it via constitutional amendment? Honestly America needs to be looking at radical reforms to its entire democratic system.

I don't think Congress really cares... especially the GOP

Never have had faith in politics, never will. It's all people just out for more power and money, every single one of them.

Expand the court to equal the amount of circuits. Term limits. Judges to be elected by popular vote. Only atheists may serve. Anyone who has accepted corporate donations may not serve.
Avatar
Fire the corrupt justices, put term limits in place, expand the court and let Biden pick the next 3 justices without GOP having any say. That's a good start.
Avatar
One: Term Limits Two: Elections of Judges by judges. Three: Allow a panel of lower justices the power to impeach a supreme court justice on corruption charges

95% of Congress could resign. That would go a long way toward regaining confidence in our government.

Avatar
Justice ought to be independent. Of judges are nominated by the president, it is de facto not independent. Big issue for democracy !
Avatar
What can congress do to win faith back? Fire them all.
Avatar
Why are these judges political appointments? Surely the law should be impartial.
Avatar
Impeach Alito, Thomas, and Kavanaugh. Expand the Court to match the number of Federal Appelate Courts and draw new justices from each in rotation with 24 year term limit so a new justice is appointed every 2 years. Binding Code of Ethics with strict rules on accepting/disclosing gifts

This congress will not be inclined to remove any of their ilk from the Supreme Court. I will never understand why the DOJ hasn’t stepped in by now.isn’t law and order their job.
Avatar
Why have a Chief Justice if that Chief Justice won't use his powers ? If only Roberts had balls and a spine. What they all do have though are lifetime appointments.
Avatar
I have to assume you know the answer and it was rhetorical
Avatar
I’ll take Term Limits, for $400, Alex .. I mean, George.
Avatar
There are only two solutions I can think of. One legal, one not really. Expand and stack the court Or Pelican Brief The former is more sustainable.
Avatar
They can’t. We need a new system — courts included. We need to arrest everyone at the top and treat them like they treat everyone on the bottom. They are all fussing about Trump being a convicted felon when they all are unconvicted felons. It’s beyond broken
Avatar
Get rid of it? Try actual democracy?
Avatar
You're fucked George, you are fucked.

Pack the court. You can't remove them, but you can increase the number of people.
Avatar
I think it's just perfectly Republican to be so short sighted that they couldn't see that stacking the court would inevitably diminish its integrity. The party of throwing chips in the air.
Avatar
No problem. Just dissolve the court and make Trump king for eternity.
Avatar
Avatar
Let's stop referring to it as the Supreme Court and affix the more appropriate name--the Robert's Court. Let him own it.
Avatar
I have been calling it the Supreme Kangaroo Court for a few years, it's accurate and rolls off the tongue

Avatar
Add four more seats so Biden can pack in some not insane and unqualified judges?

Congress is too chicken, or part of the corruption. It would take a huge makeover to accomplish anything.
