Have you ever wondered about the origin of the Eucharist and why it may be controversial? Our co-host @drkatieturner.bsky.social spoke to Biblical Time Machine all about it! Check it out 👇
I was invited back to Biblical Time Machine to talk about my first love in biblical studies: the origins of the Eucharist. Always fun to talk to Dave & Helen and especially fun to revisit this topic. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/b...

We've got a new episode! Just in time for Christmas🎄 We're spreading holiday cheer with ELF (2003) and our guest, Dr Chris Deacy. How should we understand Xmas movies, as strictly secular? Or something a little more religious? We get into it. Listen Now! www.godsandmoviemakers.com/episodes-elf

I don’t know if Aronofsky’s Noah is a good movie- but it’s a great movie for teaching reception of biblical stories

It might sound completely ridiculous, but it’s true: In popular media, the closest you’ll get to “historically accurate” costuming of Jews in antiquity are the home-spun costumes on the Maccabeats in “Candlelight”. Happy Chanukkah to all who celebrate! m.youtube.com/watch?v=qSJC...

What gets me about the whole Napoleon-(or: historical accuracy in film)-discourse is that it's so easy to claim 'it's just entertainment' but movies like [this one] still influence our view of history - so the Ridley Scotts of this world need to take some kind of responsibility for their narratives.
Gather round for a historian lesson: I was THERE in Iraq from 2003-2004. On the ground. Doing the thing. Trust me, if you want to know what was happening in the Iraq war in 2003-2004 I am NOT the source you want to rely on. So, Ridley Scott can GTFOH.

"Few of us can easily surrender our belief that society must somehow make sense. The thought that the state has lost its mind & is punishing so many innocent people is intolerable, so the evidence has to be internally denied." Evergreen from Arthur Miller (or, why The Crucible is always relevant).
New Episode Alert! In this first episode in our 2-part holiday special, we're talking about THE CRUCIBLE (1996), the paranoia that griped America during McCarthyism, and why playwright Arthur Miller responded with a story about witch trials. Happy Halloween! shows.acast.com/godsandmovie...

Absolutely.
I think Star Wars should pay attention to the success of Barbie. Instead of doubling down on bad CGI like they did in Ahsoka, if they’d wanted to maintain some of the “feel” of the animated series they should have done it with meticulous sets and practical effects.
