to make the implicit explicit, i do not think it would be wise to tell black voters and women who are the party's base that both biden and harris need to get the fuck out of the way for, say, gavin newsom or pritzker or even whitmer, which is what this idiotic "biden must step down" plan requires
maybe bret stephens and michelle goldberg could check in with james clyburn and ask him what he would do with his influence if the party decided to throw both biden and kamala harris in the trash and replace them with gavin newsom
In an election that is very explicitly going to be about abortion rights, as a party whose base is largely composed of women, it was hilariously revealing that Goldberg mentioned *eight* dudes as potential miracles off the bench.
Andy Beshear! If you're going to mention Beshear, at least mention Roy Cooper, who has basically the same experience but at least governs a swing state.
You know, we had a primary. Dean Phillips was there, and even "uncommitted." Yet a Dem base of several million voters cared enough about Biden/Harris to support them in "meaningless" primaries. I am just shocked that this isn't mentioned at all in the liberal elite punditry clown show.
There's not even any real indication that Dem voters wanted any other candidates that didn't run! Biden consistently led primary polling, and Harris consistently led polls where Biden was excluded as an option!
I'm even somewhat sympathetic to the line of thinking that "Trump is too serious a threat to be left to the whims of voters", but if you're taking that line, it would justify significantly more than "change the Dem candidate".
And this is exactly what every single GOP campaign would tell their black voters: "Look at what the Democrats did to the first black VP! See how disrespectful they are to black women! They don't respect ANY black people!"
