I want people to understand that a lot of political activism, besides voting, performed in western countries, are contingent upon the fact that the rights of association, privacy in communication, organizing, protest, etc. are still honored to some extent. They’ll not be honored in a dictatorship

I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

I had to block a bunch of lefties who were like, "You say you hate money in politics, but you still vote for candidates who accept money," and I am not willing to tolerate anti-voting takes from the left on the same day some Nazi monarchist (published by the NYT) said voting is pointless.

either there are preparations happening in secret to replace Biden or he’s staying. the decision may have been made already, but the public shouldn’t know until the new campaign is fully ready to deploy. Biden stepping down without a fully fleshed out plan in place would be criminal incompetence.

The “it is inevitable” discourse is designed to disempower actual pushback and demoralize voters to turn away or give up on democratic processes and voting. Democratic slippage with young and minority voters is vastly overstated due to nonresponse bias, but their strength with older voters is actually accurate because older voters pick up the phone. This leads to a polling miss that favors Democrats up and down the ballot.

I would like some hope, please. Anyone have a good scenario where Trump doesn't win in November (that doesn't hinge on Trump croaking)?

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

For me it’s not that I’m either ok or not ok with Biden as a candidate it’s that my brain cannot rationalize that the media has so uniformly freaked out about him while remaining comparatively serene about all the other far worse stuff in the past two weeks.

Reactionaries have built themselves into a mindset in which they see relatively banal centre-left rule as typified by Biden as the worst thing that could possibly ever happen. When you're in that state, you really can't conceive of more radical possibilities, they just don't occur to you.
