Since the Calgary Stampede kicked off today, I thought I would look at Calgary's municipal flag and the history and symbolism behind it. This flag was adopted by the city on Oct. 3, 1983 and much of it celebrates the history of the city. 🧵1/4

From 1957-1960, Nashville experienced 3 bombings - an elementary school that had just been integrated, the home of a city council member who was also a prominent Civil Rights attorney, and a synagogue. Betsy Phillips examines these bombings and why they remain unsolved. #PhotoFriday #Histbookchat

Here's a thread on the IJA's Ki-43 and IJN's A6M fighters. The two aircraft were often mixed up by the Allies during the war and confusion continues to this day. It was hard to decide what I would and wouldn't include, so note this is nowhere close to exhaustive. Click through until "END." 🧵

Sometimes the history is right there in front of you... On am walk, being touristy in St. Louis, and I see they are restoring the old courthouse - then I notice the street is named Dred Scott, and I have a better understanding of the significance of this as the site of the Dred Scott decision.

Why were there no aircraft carriers at D-day? Previous Allied amphibious assaults from Salerno right back to Narvik in 1940 involved Royal Navy fleet aircraft carriers. The landings in Madagascar, North Africa, Sicily and Italy all saw fleet carriers providing direct support of the landings...

I'm saving the next thread on the Zero fighter in popular memory from the hellsite. Be sure to click through the thread until you see "END." The Zero met with overwhelming success from its debut in 1940 through much of 1942 for a variety of reasons. It being a great aircraft was only one of them. 🧵
