The really hard part of being Icelandic and travelling that no one talks about is the urge to pack at least three extra woollen sweaters, just in case. And it doesn’t matter where you are going, it might be Spain in August, the urge is still there.

Here is part of my stash that I am trying to tell myself I won’t need in England.

I mean, you might. It’s a pretty dreadful summer even by our standards…

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Though to be fair, Labour's only been in government a day or so…
Avatar
You probably will, it's rubbish here this summer

That is actually kind of great news, I hate heat (which is one of the reasons we chose England for our holiday).

The weather has been shite for the past two months... you may need at least 1 jumper. (as i typed this the sun came out)

It’s cold enough to wear a fleece today, so a jumper (or two) will come in handy.
Avatar
You’d need them today in Amsterdam!
Avatar
ok but those all look really comfy
Avatar
They are. And I have a lot more.
Avatar
I’m jealous, even though in southern California I’d only have the opportunity to wear them for like, two weeks out of the year.
Avatar
I am sorry. The biggest ones are the ones I use in summer. The “out in the sun in midnight” ones. They are too warm to wear under your winter coat (if you are moving) and I keep them separate so they are not pictured here.

It's 11° in the east of England, never say never

That is topless sunbathing temps for Icelanders!
Avatar
So if I go to Iceland I need all my clothes and then some
Avatar
At least bring extra woollen things. Just in case.

You're coming to England?! Whereabouts? Doing any book signings?
Avatar
Just on vacation, first London and then Sussex! And I still don't have any UK publishing deal 😭, but I will always sign anything that I am handed.
Avatar
Ooh Sussex is near me, if you want to meet for a cuppa and a lovely bit of cake I can recommend a great place in Battle! 🤩🍰
Avatar
Thank you, I’ll check if it’s far!
Avatar
Seeing that you'll sign things you're handed...do I buy the signed copy of Hrím I saw today, or one of the unsigned ones in case I ever make it to an event of yours...

Do Icelanders always leave Iceland for vacations? I read a collection of short stories by Icelandic writers and I swear half the stories were set elsewhere, either on vacation or the characters were expats.
Avatar
Yes, Icelanders go abroad a lot. Almost everyone (that can afford it) goes abroad for a summer holiday and a lot of people travel for Christmas and Easter and take shorter vacations in winter.
Avatar
I think one reason is that it is so expensive to travel in Iceland, so if you don't like camping and are going to be staying in hotels and eating out a lot in Iceland on your holiday it's much cheaper to go abroad.
Avatar
In the no-tourists summer of '20 I looked at traveling around with all those great deals. Single? Pay the same as for two. Thanks but no thanks.

It's been a shocking summer weather-wise; bring swim mask, snorkel and a drysuit (these are for general use to stay dry in the continual rain or sudden downpours on supposedly sunny days - don't try using our waterways!)
Avatar
You’re correct, you won’t need them in England (unless you’ll be working on a North Sea oil rig).
