Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

This week on Counting Stuff, I don't think we noticed we're living in an age of bewilderingly cheap yet super accurate measurement of the world around us, and it means we can collect data for the hell of it super cheap too www.counting-stuff.com/measurement-...
Measurement of life things has gotten really cheapwww.counting-stuff.com It's never been easier, and cheaper, to measure things in our world, just to actually do it and learn how annoying it can be.

RE:The AT&T megabreach — er — I mean the Snowflake-negligence caused AT&T megabreach… If *you* chatted by phone or text with an AT&T customer from May 1 to Oct 31, 2022, and Jan 2, 2023, *your* metadata is in that breach, too. Likely just cell # and date/time + duration. That's sufficient […]

My Davis is still more accurate when it comes to the rain gauge, partly b/c the Tempest *rly* requires nigh perfect leveling and also partly b/c (IMO) the top surface area is just too small.

Neat! I've had a Davis wx station like forever, but a mate convinced me to take look at the Tempest, and it is such an impressive unit. The UV/luminance sensors are crazy accurate, the lightning detector is super cool too. For like half of what Davis charges, now, for just a basic unit, too.

i appreciate this. i really do. but making a good living with an independent newsletter is extremely difficult. for transparency, right now i make ~$36k with mine, health insurance through my husband’s employer and no kids. it’s not a sustainable path for most and i don’t begrudge ppl on staff.

I managed to get close to the PR I had set before covid! The outdoor proper road bike ride this week rly made it clear that I've been holding back on the pelo for no good reason anymore.

@tanyashapiro.bsky.social you got a shout out! i hope the peloton studio was super cool (both as in "neat" and "cold")! almost didn't make it. the bike had an "android recovery screen" up when i tapped it, but i got it rebooted.

ChatGPT 4o does an incredibly good job at this. it won't let me share this as a link but i just yanked this chart from a kagi search and the end result is the other img. it shows the work the whole way through. saves me alot of time for some workflows i used to have to use webplotdigitizer for.
