Look. Migration should be a human right. Migration is among the earliest and most fundamental of human activities. It is deeply natural and all humans should just be able to pick up and go wherever they want.

this is one of the dumbest things I’ve read in a while, and my literal job as a historian of modern British identity and politics is to read racist people who think they’re clever writing about immigration stupidly
what the fuck is going on at this magazine www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

has some critical mass of people worked out that saving thirty bucks or something is not worth staying in an unregulated motel possibly owned by perverts with hidden cameras who may require you to do their chores?

Thing is, she's right but in a way that's diametrically opposite to what she means here. They [the political class] are too frightened to talk rationally and truthfully about the reality of global human migration and where the UK fits into it
STFU you big racist weapon.

A good time to re/watch the excellent Defiance documentaries. The story of how Britain's Asian community stood tall against far-right racist violence in the 1970s and 80s www.channel4.com/programmes/d...

The willingness in some parts to see the pogroms as a howl of despair by the dispossessed is going to look real silly when the convictions come in and they're mostly long term active Neo-Fascists and largely petit-bourgeois

Increasingly of the view that Musk's Twitter takeover should be read like Murdoch buying The Times and The Sun. A rich guy prepared to lose a lot of money to mould public discourse to his liking

We need Football BlueSky, not Soccer BlueSky. Let’s get to work. With that in mind, and to shamelessly steal Carl Anka’s bit while he’s not here… PRE-SEASON BAD TAKE AMNESTY IS IN FULL EFFECT! What are your horrendous predictions for the season ahead that you need to get off your chest? Go go go!!
my top advice to brits joining bluesky, and I mean this sincerely though it sounds like a bit, is _do not follow more americans than brits_

"pogrom" btw, not "riot". Riots are the language of the unheard and we've been hearing from these bastards every single day since about 1958

Flipping this round, when the BBC does "legitimate concerns" on a pogrom they are signalling to everyone what all those euphemisms that "reasonable people" use around their anti-migrant views actually mean
Fuck me the BBC have written one of those "in depth" articles that goes on and on about how much misinformation there's been about the riots, but then drops the "legitimate concerns" line partway through. That's misinformation! None of these "concerns" are legitimate or to be indulged!

I do genuinely appreciate media figures and centrists taking on the absurd policy myths that are being thrown around in the UK re immigration and asylum. But what well meaning columnists miss, is that the facts do not matter here. This is not about immigration, it is about hating non-White people.

Far right mobilisation is very reminiscent of what happened in Spain when the Sanchez Government came to power. Strong relationship IMO to how Centre Right parties conduct their elections and the themes they play with on social media (imminent threats to the nation etc.).

I have absolutely no patience today for shameless whataboutery in UK journalism. If this is your response to hotels and mosques being torched, it tells me plenty about where your sympathies lie and what you say behind closed doors.
