I keep an empty black `empty.html` page as my active browser tab on browser instances I'm not currently using to prevent myself from being distracted by whatever the last active tab would otherwise be. (also nice for making secondary monitors less bright) Can recommend!

And it certainly solves the problem of having to evaluate all the options every so often. The fact that there's a UUIDv8 that is customizeable really drives home the frustration!

Just watched Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1997) for the first time and enjoyed it. But it was so distracting every few minutes realizing how many movies were so closely inspired by it. The weird helicopter flashy lights in Independence Day (1996) make a lot more sense now.

How atproto’s current architecture was designed. (iPhone Photos surprising me with some nostalgia)

It’s possible that the Bluesky team is the only to have ever successfully bonded in an escape room. It should’ve been lame but magically wasn’t 😆 #NoClues

Yeah, and those revisions seem to have been most additive... The goal is a good one, the standard/implementations just need some refactoring. Like most first versions!

I'm weird, I love domains/URLs, so I assumed `twitter.com` -> `x.com` URL change would at least result in cool URLs (even if the entire rebranding was one of the worst decisions in business history) But the "x" is so small/weak compared to the ".com/" portion of the URL it's just plain bad.

Yup! I built lots of stuff on both early Twitter and early Facebook APIs. Their bait-and-switch is a big part of why I'm so excited to help make atproto happen.

That code is not on GitHub, but here's a copy:

Quite a blessing to have someone of @steveklabnik.com’s experience do a deep dive on atproto and Bluesky and report the findings to others. Im on the go right now but at a glance it seems (unsurprisingly) very technically accurate and well explained. 🙏
With BlueSky finally opening up federation, I think it's time to write up something that explains the whole thing, BlueSky, atproto, the works, in one easy to find place. Just the high level bits, hopefully something that any developer can understand: steveklabnik.com/writing/how-...

Been said many ways wha happens as teams and orgs scale up in size but this is as good a way to explain it as I’ve seen. www.jerrypournelle.com/reports/jerr...

I see that "stinkhorn" is not catching on...

Jack Dorsey is not involved day to day in Bluesky. @jay.bsky.team runs the show/hired the team behind Bluesky Social, PBC. But Jack does deserve thanks and acknowledgement for doing what *very* few in his place would have ever done, by funding a team to create a decentralized social protocol. 🙏🙏🙏

The fact that it's what users expect is the point. Novel UIs are usually a mistake. Moving all nav to the right might work okay but splitting does not work well. Here's a screenshot of what I think I'd prefer. Probably was considered, not sure the rationale but seems reasonable to me.

Checked it out. It looks like something might have changed on your end with the Open Graph tags or something? Checking links to your individual pages, they seem good but the homepage is returning the favicon as the og:image tag it seems? i0.wp.com/theshymuseum...

First "bsky.app" link I've seen on the HN front page since we (only recently) launched the public web interface and it's a @martin.kleppmann.com post, which is pretty damn cool!
