will any of the feckless idiots who have over the years repeatedly assured us of John Roberts' nobility and seriousness of purpose devote their next column to explaining how they came to so thoroughly misunderstand the precise thing their job is to understand, or nah?

Trick question! A lot of them knew exactly what they were doing!

And those who were genuinely fooled are either still fooled or unable to admit to error.

Robert’s history and career is not concealed, anybody caring to show that he is a principle actor in a long-game plan to turn back the clock can easily read multiple accounts of that visible effort. Institutional journalists have failed us at every turn. We’ll all fry in the same pan tho.

Good thing I'm not a Democrat, I guess. For the record, nobody credibly accused of rape should be on the Supreme Court. That knocks out TWO.

Anita was extremely credible at the hearing. Thomas was not. Feels like last year to me.

"Look, it's well known in Constitutional law that the President can already commit unlimited crimes by pardoning himself and his henchmen. The Roberts Court sagaciously clarified that this is true even when the President forgets to do the pardon paperwork. Any other interpretation is hysterical."

Their job was to grease the skids to totalitarianism, and I think they understood it quite well.

Once again I suggest Jeffrey Rosen revisit his July 2020 hagiography, praising the collegial Roberts court for finding common ground in narrow decisions and respecting precedents.

Like Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes, only it’s Jeffrey Rosen with different versions of “we can trust this polite man!”

“Oh, he cares about the Court’s reputation and legacy” was just a pile of crap

They will shrug knowingly and say, “Oh, everyone *knows* he’s always been a hack, you sweet summer child. Bless your heart.”

There are attorneys on this very website who, even today, will insist that Barrett is different than the rest of them. The conservatives know very well how to play to legal academic audiences.

I’m sure at least 90% of the Establishment Media think what the court just did is fine. And, if they gave any problems, they probably blame Democrats any way.

When I write to Dick Durbin his form letter always offers the platitude that “Chief Justice Roberts will do the right thing”. Ha!

People have forgotten that John Roberts was named Chief Justice of SCOTUS by Bush to reward him for his help in the 2000 presidential election mess. He had friends with him Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett.
Avatar
But didn't he lead us to believe that in his confirmation hearings? What would make them think otherwise?

I mean they have made many similar errors and have not acknowledged, let alone grappled with those errors, so even “nah” seems too high a bar.
