The artist of this painting is Betty Dorotik. Her works are inspired by the natural environment of the Puget Sound. Her main focus is birds & other wildlife, but she also has gorgeous planted gardens. This piece is reflective of that.

In a world of stress & anxiety, I can remind myself that iridescense exists, and if I contemplate the sheen of peafowl feathers or the glittering dragonfly, I can feel happy in that moment.
I currently have two. They trade off being regal or scoundrelly, but dang, I wouldn't mind if their brains smoothed out a tad. They're fiendishly clever & crafty. Here they are communicating telepathically in Nefarious Scheming Mode.

Here are two favorites, brought together, creating still another favorite. The tangy brightness of lemon with the tranquil sobriety of lavender... I think they pair so well because they are both such clean scents & flavors. They can overlap without occluding.

This quirky little glass cat just cracks me up. I'm pretending that the terrarium is a diving bell for the cat's deep-sea hobby. Please don't scold about the logistics....

There's a folk song about a frog who lives in a well, who courts a mouse in the dell. In one version, on the way to his wedding feast, he gets eaten by a duck. In my display, he arrives in the dell after floating there safely in a cup. 💚

I've yet to meet a person who doesn't enjoy this color combination. I wonder if it's because it makes us think of the sky which arches over us all. When it's clear, we rejoice, and when it's not, we yearn, but we seem to always desire to see it, regardless.

There is something uniquely special about green & purple together, a combination that is calmly confident rather than loudly ostentatious like red & yellow or gently lulling like blue & white, though those also have their place in my visual psyche.

I painted the little dancing-crab rocks. The white rocks in the blue bowl have been collected up & down the West Coast (USA). I call them "ghost rocks." Their surface feels silky to the touch, and they have a glow about them. They impart a sense of purity, like moonlight.

Teapot is Franciscan Ivy by Gladding McBean, introduced in 1948. The company began in 1934 in Los Angeles, but is currently owned by WWRD (Waterford Wedgwood Royal Doulton), which still produces two Franciscan patterns, now in UK: Apple & Desert Rose.

I felt like combining the disparate elements of some traditional designs with an abstract cup & saucer pattern and a surreal rabbit head, and tying it all together with vertical lines.

My Abyssinian kitty will sometimes gaze adoringly into my eyes and pat my face so very, very gently with her tiny paw. At other times, she bites me anywhere she can reach, for no reason.
Love her so much.
