FYI, that Golden Gate Bridge search query is fake. Here's the account that originally spread it.

You can tell it's fake because it cites a source.

Oh damn. Thanks for the info.

My pleasure! My first magazine job was as a fact-checker, and now my brain is stuck this way

But it sounds like it could’ve been real. That’s the problem.

good on him to try and correct this, but it's a truly wild choice to describe this as 'hilarious'

So the people who warned that non-skeptical people would be fooled were fooled by not being skeptical enough?

Props to the guy for issuing a good correction! He dug deeper, and noted how many impressions it got.

still good advice for google execs tho

Ugh, I should have searched it myself.

Boy, that doesn't show that large language models are super open to abuse and manipulation through adjusting biases. What could possibly go wrong?
Avatar
It's true, LLMs are pretty abusable. (This in addition to their tendency to hallucinate and to uncritically repeat dangerous nonsense.) But @anthropic.bsky.social deserves some credit for openly discussing the weaknesses of their model instead spouting the usual denial and BS.
Avatar
Speaking of hallucinations, I just confused the AI company with a CAD software vendor.
Avatar
I thought so because I didn't get anything like that when I replicated the search.
Avatar
To be fair, LLM results can be extremely inconsistent. I've done the exact same query before a day apart and gotten different answers.

Oh, *that* Golden Gate Bridge thing.

And now Gemini is being trained on an Internet full of claims that Gemini said that, so it's likely that a future version will tell you it actually happened.
