I assume they're' some kind of "The Producers" situation, though their weird, uncanny valley, CG backgrounds are, in some shows, very accurate love letters to the areas they're set in (this peaked W'z perfectly capturing Americamura/Dendentown/Dotonburi during Halloween season,) so maybe that helps?

I mean, for me personally, W'z was a turning point because I had literally just been in those neighborhoods during Halloween & with that context grounding the rest of their surreal if not visceral choices, the possibility arose in my mind that they are sincerely some kind of weird, outsider artists.

Like, the second W'z featured a pan of the Animate building in Dendentown & it specifically cuts off before it shows the billboard for Handshakers that was up there at the time, someone there is too clever. They are screwing with viewers in an full-on "if you know, you know"-fashion.

Watching the trailer, and yeah, GoHands continues to pursue an aesthetic where the best shots are somehow always the least ambitious, and again, with such an aggressive consistency to that inversion that it's undeniably by design. They will never change beyond avoiding their worst camera movements.

I felt like I was having keys dangled in my face while multicolored bleach was poured into my eyes.

That said, knowing that about GoHands, I kind of respect theit commitment to their production flow & design choices. They continually refine their often off-putting, nauseating & migraine-inducing look & so long as they never adapt something I'd want better for, then let 'em cook. It's fascinating.

Like, there's probably an essay or even a documentary in the bizarre case of GoHands. I can think of no other animation studio on Earth with such an aggressively identifiable look where that look is off-putting to the point I'd call them the 100gecs of anime or the Japanese Paper Rad.
