The sheer surprise from younger people when I talk about the efforts fans had to make to just WATCH anime - not new stuff, not simulcasts, literally just WATCH it in the '80s and early '90s when I host panels will never not be an amazing thing.

i hate to have one of these at all but my big "WE DRANK FROM THE HOSE" opinion is that people younger than millennials really can't imagine what coming of age in a time of media scarcity meant - like, I would read about records and movies and not actually be able to see them for YEARS

I'm at a playdate at another family's house and they are asking me all those annoying parenting questions like "can John play co-op on his virtual boy?" And "can John fix my childhood NES?" And "how much does it cost to source a working Famicon on eBay?"
