I used the library so much as a kid I wrote lines in songs about it as an adult because having that access was so critical to me expanding my musical tastes, to reading the books that helped me get some good grades on the few subjects that I could focus on & much more. This move is unfathomable:

As someone who spent so many weekends in the library looking for new books to read or doing my studies or just needing somewhere quiet to escape — if I’d seen this as a kid or even as a high schooler it probably would have devastated me and that’s not hyperbole or exaggeration

When you grow up poor, sometimes the library is your only option for entertainment. To take that away feels cruel and horrible Fascism isn’t just “arriving”. They'd also not want to spend the money that way as doing 20+ episode orders leaves less room for 10+ EP credits to grift off the top while watering down the scripts to appease each exec. That budget has to stretch, the scripts must keep people's attention each week even during bottle episodes, etc.

Lost only existed and became the show it was because network television was able to financially support the production of six seasons of about 18-25 episodes each with high production value

It all feels so chaotic, so utterly, offensively stupid, so disconnected from reality that it's hard to understand how Meta can run a terrible company with decaying services that's also wildly profitable, or how Meta, Microsoft and Google can proliferate unprofitable, unsustainable

I mean, it's really telling that even the background noise tech boosters on youtube are like "yeah, late-stage capitalism, am i rite?" when faced with the endless cavalcade of ill-considered, over-priced offerings in everything from VR to cars to AI gadgets. Something shook people awake this year.

I spend a lot of time on YouTube (opposite of a brag) and the internet has gotten so bad and full of scams that even non-political YouTubers I follow (see Drew Gooden's AI video today) are now making videos that boil down to "the system is breaking"

I have to ask: why? Why bother? Dezaki nailed this material the first time around and any adaptation afterwards will be stuck in its shadow, regardless of its actual quality. It's not like MAPPA has the kind of ethos or staff currently that could bring anything new to this story.
