Don't worry, we're in good hands! Liberals are responding to the assassination attempt with their most powerful weapon -- hypocrisy attacks!

I’m now imagining an entire government run by authors discussed on the If Books Could Kill podcast.

⬆️ High rate of dialog and interaction, low number of participants ⬇️ High number of participants, little meaningful dialog. - Instant Messaging - WhatApp - Discord / Slack - Facebook - Bluesky and Mastodon are here (for me this is the sweet spot) - Twitter/X - Threads - Substack

I just don't understand why this is somehow a "bluesky" problem? There are jerks on every platform and Bluesky actually gives you more control than most over what you see and who can reply. Threads gives you absolutely no control whatsoever. How is it supposed to be better?
This does seem like a problem for Bluesky, though I'm not sure what the solution might be. PS: Jamelle Bouie is posting on Threads. I don't think he just deactivated to go on holiday as some have claimed.

Finally got my first shingles vaccine shot. Feeling a bit woozy.

If you haven't yet, add the Quiet Posters feed to your collection. This feed catches the people you follow who don't post as often, and they're often some of the best: bsky.app/profile/did:... #Feeds #Feed

The previous list was too arbitrary. This is a better one to use to block those who hounded Jamelle Bouie off Bluesky.

Going to a fitness class in Taipei and got a notice that talked about disinfecting surfaces and washing hands, but said nothing about ventilation or masks. What will it take to get across the message that #COVIDisairborne?

I too used to be an 'oh, NOW you care' person when I was younger. I was profoundly annoyed with ppl who didn't "understand" what I already knew & then all of a sudden started caring. Then I realized that was a ME issue, not at all about them. EYE was annoyed while THEY were coming to consciousness.

This scam is both very elaborate and very frightening: In some extraordinary cases, some Chinese foreign students who can’t meet the financial demands of the fake police have been persuaded to fake their own kidnappings in order to seek a ransom from their families.
Scammed by the fake Chinese policewww.bbc.com Con men threaten to extradite their victims to China if they don’t pay “bail”.

I'm an avid audiobook listener, and have been meaning to ween myself off of Audible for some time. LibroFM has a nice app, doesn't wrap their audio files in DRM, and also offers to help support a local bookstore of your choice.
Same audiobooks. Different story.libro.fm Libro.fm makes it possible for you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.

The "should Biden drop out" controversy is so great because it makes for maximum anxiety, speculation, and conflict -- none of which could conceivably influence the outcome. This is the kind of moment liberals live for.

New Popular Front's program to simultaneously support Ukraine in its war for national defense and Palestine in its fight against apartheid is, and should be, the standard for the Left.

Man, there are so many big, active Twitter accounts whose whose last Bluesky post was 6 months ago This place is bigger and has more features now but we can't put 1K likes on every post and I think that's mainly what some people want

On the future of generative AI, who are you going to believe? Goldman Sachs, which is "skeptical that AI’s costs will ever decline enough to make automating a large share of tasks affordable" Or the OnlyFans model who says that "using generative AI has increased her income by about 300%."

Suprise: unwashed fascist ghoul Matthew Walther - who wrote a column that the New York Times just published advising Americans not to vote - did in fact vote in 2020 and 2022. It’s time for us to stop tolerating these ratfucking liars.

Watch SCAVENGERS REIGN. Watch CAROL AND THE END OF THE WORLD. Watch BLUE EYE SAMURAI. Watch PLUTO. Netflix needs to understand that *original animated series for YA/adults* have value beyond raunchy comedy. There IS an audience for it. They’ll keep canceling them unless they see those numbers.

I vote in the District of Columbia, the most Democratic electoral unit in the country. Any threats I make about not voting over Gaza are meaningless. But they do represent the same grievances a lot of folks up in Michigan who I don't control have, and unless we can address them we're screwed.

I usually feel pretty good about my academic career, such as it is, but on some days I wake up feeling depressed that nobody has ever written a book-length diatribe attacking me.
