I enjoyed the movie Yesterday, but the idea that Beatles songs could have been introduced to people today and they'd be bangers is so weird. Without any cultural inertia, some of them might land as quirky novelty songs, but mostly not the big hits.
I feel like “X walked so Y could fly” is really true in any art. The Beatles feel trite now, but at the time they were trailblazers. It’s like going back to play the first Final Fantasy and realizing it kinda sucks.
I haven't seen it, but the premise had me wondering if they intended to explore the influence of the Beatles in kind of a It's A Wonderful Life way, or just have a modern musician introduce the world to "I Want To Hold Your Hand." I'd be into the first one.
What’s kind of amazing though is that I didn’t listen to a lot of The Beatles until I was an adult - and I’m still not a huge fan - but I could hear SO MANY other bands in their music. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, *The Pixies*, to name just a few. They were immensely influential.
yo i have actually been saying this for years and everyone just laughs it off like “of course you think that, you’re seventeen california stereotypes piloting a skin suit.”
listen, i am guilty of unironically loving the eagles, and also of occasionally subjecting people to eagles karaoke
and that’s one of my toxic traits, and i do have to live with that
but the eagles don’t rate, sorry
I am not actually saying I agree or disagree but
According to online sources the Beatles considered Pet Sounds the goal they had to surpass so that’s a huge beach boys mark
