Overtly loquacious bardic artificer support character, overloading her base class and learning the self-care of embracing joy instead of doomscrolling life.

The second best day to become the person you were always meant to be is today.

In the 2010's we often had games that chastised players for doing the very fun, cool thing that the video game was literally about. In the year 2024 we're much more advanced: We simply chastise players for talking about this very fun, cool video game they're playing.

It is not possible to always be your best self. Life is complicated, and every day is full of challenges and compromises. But never forget that your best self is present, and strive to live up to it through it all.

I just quit a terrible job that I let go on way too long, and the greatest lesson I learned in that time was that neurodivergent obsessions like "I have to fix everything or I'm worthless" keep me in places that don't deserve me and cause me to push myself past my breaking point for no real reason.

In a video I consider one of my best, I argue that the tech and games industry is languishing in a Rot Economy because there is "no more room in Hell." They're out of exploitative ideas, and they're desperate: youtu.be/7JNrZd0hBiA

I've heard dozens of different and utterly hilarious trans jokes - most of which have no problem pointing out the absurdity of transition - and what separates them from the transphobes' One Joke is that the One Joke is only funny if you think trans people shouldn't exist and deserve your contempt.
My feelings about “offensive comedy”, in a nutshell: It’s okay to make jokes about things like rape, but only if you make sure it’s the rape survivors who laugh at it, not the rapists.

Capital, which by definition is unable itself to create, seeks to claim the process of creation, but is always left with just the husk of the once created while the true front of creation moves on elsewhere

The executive tasked with dismantling my division insisted *every* one of their orders was priority one and had to be executed immediately. We found out why when the axe fell. A manager that can't prioritize is a "get your resume updated and stop giving a shit about your workload" warning.
I have encountered this exact phrase from both a coworker at my old job (long time semi person) and a coworker at my new job (Taiwanese). Even when I was one person with two tasks asking which one needed to be done first!

For me (a while ago now) it was when I realized that if the people I was sticking around to help defend really wanted to stick around, I wasn't actually doing anything to help I was just making myself feel terrible.

i don't think it's bad to want to pass. why is it bad to want to be safe. why is it bad to want to feel normal about my face and body. i don't want to be a political project for cissexual gender theorists, i just want to be happy and safe. or is that not "valid" any more?

The CRT Game Boy: a delightfully mad, horrifying bodge from the angle grinders to the copious hot glue. The end result "technically" works, but the cost per minute in batteries rivals calling a 900 number and the CRT components remind you they're a lethal shock risk. www.youtube.com/watch?v=irHI...

i really can’t understate how powerful the positive mental effects are of being able to visualize your future self as happy (and hot, hehe) instead of only seeing a void, and all of that only happened for me with transition

Today, I taught my eldest child two rules of my technical support services: 1) If I did not ask you to touch it, do *not* touch it. 2) ...that goes double if you think you're helping.

Big recent learning for me, is that my trauma response to this is to try to soothe, fix, and normalize for anyone displaying an aggressive/angry/loud/upset style of dealing with their own issues. Used to wonder how I ended up working for so many abusive folks
You know where else you see this? Middle managers. Way back in the before times I managed software QA teams for a few very big corporations. (Which is why I hate them so much) People get little to no training on how to manage people and they default to how they were raised.

The perception that feedback has to be "tough" and negative "or people won't learn" overlaps heavily with folk who have a vested emotional interest in simply shitting all over other people's work. The former might have some limited utility but the latter drove me out of "writing groups" for good.

I find it an amusing part of generational lore and fiction that the resolution to "we dramatically changed the way we present this creature over decades of haphazard world-building" always ends up being "and both versions of them exist, actually."

I have found one of the more important skills to develop for the ADHD side of the AuDHD has been the little mantra, “This feeling won’t last forever.” Because with time-blindness and sometimes intense emotions, it really can seem like bad feelings will last forever, and get really stuck in them.

when I was in high school I had a weirdo (complimentary) friend who would sit in the hallways and sneer "you're so weeeeeeird" at the extremely preppy popular kids, and it freaked them out every time. I am just so, so delighted to see that a. this still works and b. on such a massive scale

Being neurodivergent involves this paradox of being so very used to being constantly misunderstood but also having it hurt a little more every single time.

I've been thinking about how the message many men receive is "You can't be attractive to women by just being; you must earn access through accomplishment and action," and how easily that flips to "You have accomplished something and now you deserve a reward."
I kid, of course, but I do wish some of you would figure out this is not a problem of individual monsters but a problem of a system that presents access to sex as a reward for power and fame

I can’t say emphatically enough that the Dem messaging shift over the last week has literally just been taking what Gen X, millennial, and Gen Z internet culture has been doing for over a decade and finally mainlining it instead of treating it as invalid political speech

Drill this lesson into your head; it's one of the most powerful components of abuse culture, *especially* among the famous and powerful. It builds not only the trust needed to isolate and harm victims, but a safety net of well-meaning defenders prone to aggressively disbelieve they'd hurt anyone.
Part of growing up is learning that "This person was nice to me, personally" and "this person is a good person" are two completely different things.

People think ADHD is experienced as hyperactivity, but for me it is experienced as paralysis: Not having the mental juice to do The Thing, or being constricted by shame when I fail to follow through because I struggle to conceptualize time or manage my energy.

Lots of talk about "vote for me and in four years it'll be fixed and you'll never have to vote again" that discusses the excuse "he means he'll make everything so good you won't feel the need to vote," but so far exactly *one* person has pointed out that psychology and elections don't work that way.

Because it is weird and creepy to look at government, an institution that can feed the hungry, build roads, drive scientific discovery, and say, "All that is terrible. Instead we should us it to police people's genitals and what they do with them."
i think a big part of why the “these guys are weird” message is satisfying is that they’ve had an unchallenged lock on “we represent mainstream middle america” as a brand for decades even as the stuff they were talking about got wildly outside of the mainstream and now it’s finally being challenged
