I think deconstructing all these different levels of culture is really great, but it also makes you way less fun at certain types of parties.

I am really going to be working on getting more writing time in my life this coming week. Wish me luck. It’s something that I really do need to have in my life, and I’ve neglected making the time for it of late.

Might be another situation where I have to go offline for a day or two, sometimes these stories just have little details in them that trigger me in some kind of way, and this one is just a lot.

Happy Disability Pride Month! According to the CDC, up to 1 in 4 people in the US have some kind of disability. We honor disability justice champions who won significant progress over many decades, as we continue the fight for better policies to create a more livable, accessible future for all.

I think if there’s one thing that I am most likely to start ranting about when dude-bros want to tell me anything about Star Wars, it’s Marcia Lucas’s role in the original films, and how she’s been wiped from film history since she and George divorced.

Also, I don't think it's a coincidence that so many of the hobbies society looks down on are often a.) ones that give you a teensy sliver of independence from society and b.) the ones society relegated to the realm of women once upon a time.

My summer parenting tip: if you have a kid with the math-inclined ADHD, kid-friendly versions of D&D are out there, and kids can spend a couple of hours setting up a campaign that will take 20 minutes to play through after dinner.

Instead of panicking or yet another postmortem (forgive me I've been Black this whole time so not much of this is breaking for me), link up with like minded folk for practical solidarity. Shield those more vulnerable than you and figure out how you can soften structural abandonment.

A little bit of prettiness in these times. Aldi had bunches of roses for $5 this week, and I bought three of them, because life is short and sometimes you buy yourself flowers.

For the entirety of this century, Democrats have been naive institutionalists while Republicans have been destructionists. Institutions cannot save you if they do not exist. Conservatives are trying to kill us while liberals are still bitching about following the norms.

Just another day of increasing anxiety as more Supreme Court decisions come through. I didn’t need to learn how absurd it would feel to live under the rule of a government skipping merrily into fascism, but here we are.

As I contemplate gender things, I really wonder if neurospicy people are more likely to be LGBTQIA+, or if we’re just more likely to consider alternatives to what society hands us as options.

The problem I have with "we are going to get through this" messages is that people tend to get real quiet when you ask who the "we" in that sentence refers to. And even quieter when you ask how many of "we" we can lose along the way and still be thought of as "getting through."
