I have a soft spot for it as well. My family is big into aviation, and we went to see the “Bye Bye Blackbird” exhibit when they finally completely phased it out. Planes were a big thing for us. I even went to aviation camp! But that got REALLY militaristic really fast 😬

Did you ever make it to an EAA Fly in? Born and raised on USAF bases to a dad who flew…the EAA was where I saw the cool planes like the Concorde…

One of my niblings wanted to dress up as a pilot for Halloween when they were little. Their parents found a Top Gun-style outfit very easily, but the kid was disappointed. They wanted to be a COMMERCIAL pilot! Fortunately, their parents were able to find that. The photos were adorable.

I myself remember, as a child in a military family, going to see airshows, at least one of them featuring the Thunderbirds flying team. Also toured a lot of cold, cooped up WWII bomber planes on the ground, which prepared me for entering the USS Requin at the Carnegie Science Center later on
