THAT IS A FORM OF INFLUENCE. YOU’RE A FUCKING LAW PROFESSOR.

A law professor who is also receiving free vacations from Crow

so much of this is like, well if thomas was doing something wrong, maybe *i* was doing something wrong—no that can’t be

I just got to the ‘struggling with money but a friend loaned him $270k for an RV’ part and I want to kick some rich people in their money sacks.
Avatar
But but but ... the RV is part of Thomas' "just folks" persona. (Seriously, a few years ago the spouse and I bought a *house* for about that amount of money. Our "RV" is a hatchback with some camping gear piled in the back.)
Avatar
My house is worth half that… today. I bought it 10 years ago for a quarter of the price of that RV. It’s not a shack on a patch of dirt, either. I call my camping supplies ‘Plan B’ in case I lose my job and my home. Unlike Clarence, I don’t have a lifetime guaranteed income and healthcare.

No one said law professors were actually smart

Especially the Yale ones
Avatar
Yup. Part of what has become obvious in recent years is how terribly our 'elite' universities are at inculcating morals, or even basic legal ethics.
Avatar
Avatar
Wait was 'inculcating morals' a major purpose of higher education? That really wasn't part of the job as it was described to me.

Did you go to an ivy? That was a mistake.

especially for sure

Have you met any Harvard ones?

I’ve known enough Yale-educated lawyers to be skeptical of their professional ethics curriculum — or that of any white-shoe feeder school, really — but Jesus Christ, this is taking casuistic hair-splitting to a an entirely new level.

“he’s not trying to influence thomas’s views, he’s merely ensuring that thomas continues delivering views that he already likes” is the sort of clever-boy thing i would expect from law school
Avatar
It sounds like he's also corrupt, rather than not being smart enough.
Avatar
He's either in on this thing as well, or does something similar in his own sphere.

No they are actually smart but they also have huge hubris and think that because they are these Elite lawyer professors that they can get away with it they live by a different set of rules because they know how to manipulate the law

Arguing in the alternative is their stock in trade. Apparently if you’re really good at it you get a place on Yale’s faculty. I always wondered abt implausible args my profs wld describe (so we could prepare to counter them, not make them ourselves). But nothing prepared me for insane horseshit.

well, liz bruenig wrote that whole article and i’ve been mad at her since

One mentioned here. I don’t feel like giving direct clicks because I’m still mad people will fall for its narrative abovethelaw.com/2021/07/amy-...

The Atlantic's paywall would prevent me from falling for its narrative! I wouldn't trust anything Elizabeth Bruenig writes regardless. How does this relate to Harlan Crow?

He knows what he is doing ... gaslighting. Truth isn't relevant for his twisting of the situation in striving to make this "Friends With Benefits" situation look anything less than the (should be (maybe is) illegal) slimy reality. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends...

Or ethical.. I tend to be more doubtful about the ethics for some reason . Shameless and entitled too
