lmao an amazing exchange from last night's NY-16 primary debate btwn jamaal bowman and the hillary clinton-endorsed george latimer when the moderator asked the candidates to rate eric adam's leadership from 1-10
And also just goes to show how performatively fake some segments of the Liberal Dem voting bloc can really be. It went from "Trump did J6! Traitor!!! Lock him up!" to "Biden is caving to the communists in our Party" in 2024.
"Scratch a Liberal..." as the old saying goes.
He's always been a transactional machine centrist Dem who "respects" power (former Cuomo bootlicker). He has a lot of support among local elites, unfortunately. I've canvassed for Bowman in the rich-as-hell part of Pelham and it's been better than I expected but still v. fraught lol.
It’s a closed primary state, the bulk of his campaign messaging (literally dozens of mailers) is Biden needs a staunch ally (not Bowman who didn’t vote for his infrastructure bill), protecting abortion, the fire alarm, and “not believing women” / Zionist dog whistles.
Madness, cruelty, a lust for power everlasting; she, as with nearly everyone in political office and in political orbit, is far easier to describe with what *is* wrong with them, rather than what isn't.
Positive qualities are akin to non-melting ice: rare, and getting moreso all the time.
I would recommend the book "Shattered", about her 2016 campaign, by insiders who promised no attribution and nothing published until after the election, plus they'd written a glowing account of her time as Sec of State. Some cheap shots at Bernie (I'm a Bernie supporter), but it seemed really good.
She read every single email that went through her 2008 campaign mail server. 😳 Didn't put much effort into figuring out why people should vote for her, "it's her turn" was one attempt (that's insane, it's never anyone's turn to be president of the USA!).
I think that's why "[pause] Two" is such a good answer, that's what you get if you do go ahead and think about whether to honestly give the man some credit
Why is the performance of Eric Adams relevant in a district that's overwhelmingly in Westchester County? Did they ask them to rank the mayors of Yonkers or White Plains?
Because part of the district is in the Bronx, NYC and its policies have a huge impact on the region, many in Westchester work in NYC, and Adams is (tragically) one of the most powerful New York State politicians with whom the NY-16 rep will inevitably engage/have to deal with.
No doubt other questions were asked! The “tiny part” includes, I believe, at least 25,000 people. So if you were one of those people, you’d probably appreciate the question. I gave you several other reasons to ask it which also absolutely apply. There’s nothing even slightly odd about the question.
Matthew, you asked a question, and then someone provided specific info that answered your question but perhaps challenged your assumptions. That can be an unpleasant feeling, but even so the snarky “glad you feel that way” reply isn’t warranted if civil discourse is your goal.
