new zealand academia achievement unlocked: somebody in a committee meeting on zoom turned their camera around to reveal they were working from a barn surrounded by sheep 🐑

It was a rather contentious meeting so seeing some newborn lambs totally lightened the mood

I can't not feel bothered when so many folks call the guys Trump and Biden but refer to her as Kamala. We saw this with Clinton as well. She was repeatedly called Hillary instead. It's another version of addressing women profs as Mrs. and men as Dr. or Prof. Please let us all settle on Harris.

lol the entire university of auckland's (expensive, i assume) system for people's academic profiles is not currently being indexed by google I discovered this when a student tried to email me at a made-up @auckland.ac.nz address that bounced. "yeah I couldn't find your email online" (??)

One little journalistic detail is that over the last 8 hours, BBC newsreaders have almost uniformly updated their pronunciation of 'Kamala' to the correct one (ie, comma-la) 👍🥥🌴

(trust me, I heard I think 6 different newsreaders today and the change has been palpable. we don't get a ton of solid international coverage in NZ so I've got the BBC Sounds app ready at a moment's notice)
