He seems to be trying to get himself jailed.

He seems to think that being jailed will actually free him, in the sense that his followers will be outraged and demand justice. Based on the non-existent crowds at his trial, even after he called for an assembly, I'm not so sure being jailed will work out the way he wants.

What are the range of consequences you might expect Justice Merchan to impose? Bigger gag order? Fine? Any possibility of jail time?

Any of the above is possible. I have not practiced in front of Justice Merchan, so I do not have an informed opinion about what he is likely to do.

the only way to stop a bully is to enforce a hard boundary. even if justice merchan isn't comfortable jailing him now, i liked the idea of a fine + a deferred sentence, i.e. if there's another violation he goes to jail immediately.
