#Birds seen today! (Or, technically yesterday).
There has been an outbreak of Tricolored Herons around, with 2 or possibly 3 different individuals on and off locally since early June. This is a deceptive heron because when you see it like this, you think ah, proper heron-sized bird, but…
Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) in Fern Tree, Tasmania. Amazing to see it and get a few images, was feeling pretty good about it... then it sat in a tree by the house and brought a couple buddies to make the sound that gave it its name at dawn every morning at like 130db. 😬 #birds
Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae novaehollandiae) Tasmanian subspecies, Descent Beach near Doo Town (Google it, it's a goofy tourist attraction), Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania. Tasman's Arch is also nearby as is Shipsterns Bluff for you surfers.

So today is pretty bleak and unsettling here in the US but I found an Osprey nest with 4 juveniles so that has to be worth something right? Just focus on the #birds
A black-necked stork in the pre-dawn fog. Even in low light, you can see that their necks are dark with green iridescence, rather than actually black. Photo by my wife.
