Erica Shultz is here on Bluesky if you want to follow, and lovely to chat to. I recommend Bylines in Blood, an indie comic she did.

This week, we have comics that are written by Roy Thomas, inked by Wally Wood, and that feature additional illustrations from Art Spiegelman. You know, the guy that won a Pulitzer Prize for Maus. And despite that impressive list of credits, I reckon that most people have never read these comics.

Sad to see drawing Spider-Man ruined for you, but I loved the unconscious Spidey being dragged by Taskmaster in a recent piece you did.

Thought this issue was heaps of fun. Just had a massive smile on my face when it all wrapped up.

For anyone interested in comics creation, these comments are super useful to understand what comic editors will look for on interior pages.
Over on Reddit Comic Book, a 17-year old posted up a Batman comic sample page portfolio he put together and in the comments I gave him a pretty extensive critique: reddit.com/r/comicbooks... Not something I normally have time for, but this kid is clearly working hard.

Hello. On multiple occasions in this article you've referred to Justina Ireland as the artist. She is co-writing with Joe Kelly.

Do I have to have read the first seven deaths of Spider-Man to understand 8 Deaths of Spider-Man?
Avatar
I disagree that he conveyed it poorly, I think it just leaked out of context and people made up their mind. Also, assuming you mean Peter's relationship with BC is the arc Wells wrote?
Avatar
For that first example, he wrote Peter trying to figure out how to describe how his love for MJ has changed. In the same panel, Black Cat rejects the sister line and he tries a different way to describe it.

This article contains a couple of hilarious misunderstandings ('Decompression' is a technique, not a movement) but is otherwise a fascinating insight into one of the most revered and complex comics creators of the 20th century.
The Secret Life of Steve Ditko: Spider-Man Co-Creator’s Family Opens Upwww.rollingstone.com He helped create the web-slinging hero in his own image — but who was the man behind the mask?

Man, I should really remember to post my video schedules here on Bluesky. Anyway, I have videos that will show you what Spider-Man comics are coming this week and this month, and also a recap of Amazing Spider-Man #55, where Spider-Man loses to Doc Ock due to the most comic book of devices.

Thank you for the reply! I was worried it was a spoiler for a different story. So very glad to see you writing a full Spider-Man story; I've always felt it would be in your wheelhouse.

Buttondown is free to a certain level, I believe. It's also a very good, open alternative.

Been playing around with brand new thumbnails, that hopefully allow me to have more fun with the art, and also make it clear what videos are recaps or otherwise.

@dereklandy.bsky.social Hello! Hoping you could clear something up about the preview for the ASM Annual next week. It starts with Spidey saying he saw someone die, but I don't think that happened in the Thano annual, right? Is this gonna be time-travel stuff or is he referring to a different series?
Avatar
Man, I'm so glad that the Joe Kelly news dropped before I recorded my "Spider-Man issues coming out in July" video.

Bonus comrade card for today. (Words by @prisonculture.bsky.social, of course)

I'm working my way through lots of Spider-Man comics, and try to average about three a day

You can't say "blood" in Star Wars?!
Avatar
I was this fish until recently. Then I spent a little money on Affinity Photo and it was night and day. Just a world of better.
Avatar
Thank you for clearing it up (I suspected the date was wrong). Looking forward to it!

Honestly, I really like a lot of the run. I don't think it always sticks the landing, but I think it's going to have a new life in a few years time when people read it without the negativity around it online.
Avatar
I'm yet to read Spencer, but it doesn't surprise me. Editorial have always changed stories, from the Hobgoblin reveal to the MJ wedding.
Avatar
Yeah, not just Wells. Slott has said that it made the book very difficult for him, and I think it literally killed Spencer. Has he been seen in public since ASM?

I would love them to return to more of a writers' room approach, with 5-8 rotating writers that will be able to keep up with the pace of the bimonthly book, but also bring different perspectives.
