Good afternoon! I'm hitting a roadblock on finding primary sources for the Greek story of the Pleiades. I've read through Hesiod, but he merely refers to the actual stars, not the story behind it. Anyone have anything? Thank you so much! 🏺

Good morning BlueSky! Happy Friday! Hope everyone enjoyed "independence" day. Great food and fireworks are perfect to forget the recent SCOTUS ruling. 🫢 Well, here's a nice ripple of a photo... 🤷‍♂️

Gravity causes the density of a liquid mixture to stratify, introducing a previously unobserved depth dependence in the physics of an otherwise generic phase transition, Ostwald ripening, which is also behind freezer burn. physics.aps.org/articles/v17...
Gravity Alters the Dynamics of a Phase Transitionphysics.aps.org An experiment uncovers the role played by gravity in Ostwald ripening, a spontaneous thermodynamic process responsible for many effects such as the recrystallization of ice cream.

Sorry little fox! 🦊 He was out for a midnight stroll and did *not* expect me to be sitting here in my lawn chair in the driveway with my telescope 😂 We spooked each other! (I don’t think he stopped by to wish me happy birthday…) Back to collecting photons from NGC 6888, the Crescent Nebula 🔭 🧪

As Inanna journeys to the Underworld, so do the Hero Twins: Inanna’s sacrifice of her husband, Dumuzi, and Xbalanque’s sacrifice of his brother Hunahpu. They share the death and resurrection just as Venus or the moon - each disappear and then rise again. 🏺🔭

Every year, I harvest about 2.5 gallon of blueberries from my 2 blueberry bushes. I freeze them and my husband @oldblackcrow.bsky.social loves putting them in his cereal. Tips: 1 bush needs @least 5 gallon of water a week.

If you’re going to the LISA Symposium in Dublin & want to see the oldest evidence of human astronomical knowledge in Europe, you should get tix asap (depending on how long you’re there, some dates are already sold out!). But if you can, I highly recommend visiting Newgrange (older than Stonehenge!)

I love making videos about science with an unnatural level of enthusiasm. I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know. And especially, the things we still don't know. If you've ever wondered about something in space and couldn't find an answer online - you can ask me! My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars. http://drbecky.uk.com https://rebeccasmethurst.co.uk

Good morning, Bluesky! The prompt yesterday for the 30-day drawing challenge I’m doing was “turtle.” I drew my piece and then this girl showed up to say, “We look *nothing* like that 🤨” Everybody’s a critic! Have a less grumpy Monday than this gal, y’all! 😉
