How about paying authors a fair price for the books you lend

Sports international broadcast and streaming rights are a very different subject than writers not being paid fairly.

If I’d been posting about pirating books you might have a case, but I didn’t.

everyone else is posting about borrowing books from a digital library, nothing is being illegally distributed, and the vast majority of the books are out of print. the authors would get nothing if you could even purchase a copy, and the ones that can, do. you were posting about piracy lmao

which like, i really dont care! i dont care if you have to steal media because of an exploitative system, where the corporations in control of it do more theft than any of us ever could in our lives, but dont go around thinking youre on a high horse when you dont even understand the situation

Out of print does not equal out of copyright. Those authors still have a right to be fairly paid for their books being added to the IA, if they want them there to begin with. Authors certainly don’t make a fortune.

im curious to know how you think libraries work

Do professional soccer players have the same right to be paid for their labour?
Avatar
They do indeed, but they are by and large paid way more than most authors. Also, when certain games are made unavailable because of tv rights geoblocking, choices are limited.

You are such a shameless hypocrite. Footballers are workers, they deserve to get paid as much any writer.
Avatar
If footballers were paid as much as any writer there’d be no professional football as most authors need to work day jobs to make ends meet. Most books aren’t geoblocked like streaming tends to be

Are all the other professionals employed in ensuring a TV broadcast is even possible, nevermind enjoyable, paid way more than most authors?

According to the authors’ guild, probably so?
